Do I bite on this or wait until BF to see if there's a better deal.
Check RTINGS, think about what you care about, and then purchase.

Advice here is really uninformed - IPS is not better than VA. There are pros and cons of each.

Wait until Black Friday should be $100
Do you recommend this monitor for a college student looking to do assignments?

It's a good deal, but I would wait. This one is a VA Panel. You can probably get an IPS for around the same price closer to BF. I scooped up the deal for the 27" MSI that was same specs and IPS for $179 that BB put 2 weeks ago. I would look for an IPS as the picture is noticeably better imo.
If I am looking to do assignments is this a good monitor no gaming?

Let me put it this way: I got a PC on BF 2006. It came with an LCD monitor, keyboard, mouse and cheap speakers for about $190. It was actually pretty crazy for the money, even though it was not a great system. But this is about monitors...that thing was 15" and square. I used that computer for about 2 years for school, games and more. You are not going to be upset with most monitors on the market today if your requirement is "need to do work on it," whether that is business stuff or schoolwork.

As others have said, rtings.com is a great place to check for TVs and monitors. They do extensive testing. This one does not rank great, but that should not be expected at this price. If you don't know any better, you will probably thing it's great.

I think IPS vs VA might be subjective. IPS has difficulty with blacks / dark areas and light bleed, VA has issues with viewing angles. On a 24-27" VA should be just fine with angles (at least my screen is). I do have an IPS Gigabyte screen coming on Monday, will be am interesting comparison personally!
The g24f? How do you like it? Was looking at one

VA panels have improved to the point if it's a modern panel and not using old backstock panels there's near zero difference between it and an IPS. it used to be true that VA had better contrast ratios, but worse response times, not really the case anymore. IPS contrast ratios have improved, and VA panels have gotten better response times, along with no longer being the default budget gaming option like they were in the mid 2010's. back then you would see 6bit FRC controllers for color instead of true 8 bit which caused the banding on gradients. some budget laptops still seem to use 6bit frc, but in gaming monitors from major brands (only seen sceptre and vizio, in their sub-$200 lines using 6bit FRC still) 6bit frc is largely a bygone thing.
