Movie theaters have projectors that cost north of 125k. And you are still in darkness there. Modern theaters even block rear doors so when they open the whole theater isn't lit up and the image degraded. If you can't control the light you can't have a PJ.
Color-wise 2150 is best for fullHD and 3550 is best for 4k! Hopefully prices will go down for black Friday.
Not recommended? I thought the 5050 was the consensus best PJ under 3k…

have these gotten any better with rooms with some outside lights. seems light the room have to be pitched black to get a good viewing from my experience with the last two projector.
If there is a little light these still work good! I have a HT3550 and with a little bit of light its still watchable, however when its pitch black the quality is just amazing!

I have the epson 5050ub. It's watchable but not recommended at all. Shines in the dark. The benq does look good during day. Better than epson but the only projectors or aka laser TVs shining in this department is hisense or Samsung at nearly 6k and suffer in black levels drastically. If you need daylight viewing get a TV.

Doesn't seem like it, Atleast the 3550 and 2150 are usually available for these prices these days.

He asking for daytime viewing lights on. Epson 5050ub shines in pitch black environment. Which I have and absolutely love it with pitch blackness.

For what he is after the tk800 or tk850 is way to go. And yes epson 5050ub is 3x more than benq.

Oh I see. I'm in the market for a pitch black projector too but would like it to be black housing. Any suggestions??

I have the TK800M - got it for same price over a year ago from BH. It's a great projector and works very well with my 120" screen.
My living room has a lot of light and I do not like the day time performance - I mean you can see it but it's all washed out. So I'm getting blackout curtains soon!
