OP thank you for clearly pointing this out as not a Paperwhite! Repped!

Yeah, I never understood the big deal with the ads. They are only on the lock screen, and occasionally they've actually offered some good deals on the ads.

Why would you go to the trouble? The Kindle never displays any ad while you are reading a book. Never.

I just bought this a few hours ago before seeing this. Good price to give someone for a gift. Like a beginner kindle and can be traded in to upgrade in a few years if needed. Newbies, you chat with amazon to get ads removed. The last time I had to try a free times to get the right person.

If we ask for the removal of ads for the basic kindle, will they give for the same price?

Damn, tried to submit a trade-in but they won't apply the credit until they receive my old one. Have had some luck in the past with getting the credit upon submitting

What are you planning to do with the Kindle? Watch 8k YouTube videos?

Any art heavy medium (e.g. graphic novels / text books) at higher PPI are much more readable. Even regular books the font looks more natural and easier to read. Of course "worth it" is pretty subjective. Personally I'm looking forward to color e-ink but only when it hits ~250-300 PPI without ghosting. One day it will replace a lot of paper waste!

It's 1/3 the pixels.

90,000 pixels per square inch on the Paperwhite and Oasis compared to 28,000 pixels per square inch on the basic.

Seems to be the lowest price of the year. Note: this is not the Kindle Paperwhite. See here for a detailed comparison: https://www.techradar.com/news/am...paperwhite

The Kid's Kindle is only $10 more and comes with a case and a 2-year replacement warranty and 1 year of Amazon Kids+ (FreeTime Unlimited). Not sure what the latter includes, but a case and a 1-year warranty seem like a no-brainer, as far as I know, this is the same Kindle Basic just packaged differently.

Ah damn I just got the refurb one from Woot for $35.
Should I send it back and get this, is that the much older version?
