FWIW it seems like it's impossible to turn off motion smoothing or the soap opera effect on these, which is a deal breaker for me

This was $398 yesterday. I prefer Roku as the HDMI will boot right up no need to select it. So it turns on faster.

I was between your link the TCL 5 series and this u6g, but after some research and ratings.com (see below) seemed to favor the u6g > 5 series tcl. hopefully I made the right choice pickjng up the u6g for a bedroom

I considered this as well. Then the other one popped up. I wanted 55" so I went with it. The room I have it in is not that bright so less bright a TV I prefer actually as I use it most of the day as a monitor. The colors are a bit better and Roku which means it turns on faster doubt I will use the Roku function. I would have been fine with it not being a Smart TV. I would have gone to 60" if a decent price were available.

Yes it can work for bedrooms; it's bright enough for even living room for my first time with hisense it's overall positive with picture quality and build for $400 but there's so many of the tcl and hisense that is dropping down to this that it makes it hard to not get a bigger one; even the Samsung tu6985 70" is close

If anyone actually wanted the u6g then i would go for the $450 costco u6gr

It's not as many compromises if you are locked to 50-55" sizes

saw a couple of people trying to return this brand in costco, claimed it break down in a couple of month... I really think sometimes you get what you pay for... LOL
