After painting 30-40 rooms in the past 20 years, I now skip the tape entirely for trim work. A really good paintbrush and a steady hand get the job done better and quicker, but we still use tape for some spots like against unpainted wood where don't even want a single drip of paint.

When I was less experienced, tape was a false sense of security for me and I usually peeled it back later to find a huge mess behind (small undulations in the surface would allow this). Don't make the mistakes I did!

Also, consider a painter's straight edge. Just keep it clean or it'll just smudge the paint everywhere.

This is not something to stock up on cause it is on sale, stuff dries out and makes it harder to stay stuck or rips when taking off spool.

The youtube link above does a very good job of showing the difference. Basically the conclusion was Frogtape does better on semi-smooth surfaces, with 3M a close second.

Been this price for a few weeks now. Recently tried to use this on drywall to paint. I would test it out cause my tape keeps self-peeling off the walls everytime I try to apply it. Might have been sitting in the warehouse too long or something.

Agree and something like this helps https://www.amazon.com/SHUR-LINE-...9027&psc=1

But when you need a solid line where there isnt an edge, you will need tape

I had to contact the manufacturer for better details but they claim to use 6.5 frogs in the making of each roll.

In for 1; thanks OP. Looked at reviews for the blue Frog tape; sounds like adhesive is quite a bit more aggressive, resulting in paint being peeled from under the tape. Some let the tape in place for 3 days, which sounds like asking for trouble.

I personally can attest that Frog is great stuff. Love it, and it does a great job - just like Project Farm mentioned in the youtube video.

Thanks for sharing.

I had mixed results with it. It seemed to do a good job at blocking paint bleed on edges where it was needed as a straight edge, but the issue I had is that it did not stick very well and actually fell off the clean wall as fast as I put it up. Once I was able to get some to stick, it did a good job, but it was really lacking in adhesion.
