We did the opposite (NYC is our "quick game").

You're in for a treat, the full version is epic in comparison, and still playable in 60-90 minutes.

Kudos to Days of Wonder for streamlining all the right elements for First Journey. You really can still get much of the same Ticket to Ride experiences (there's even a "grief train" one car route to Albuquerque). And once the general game mechanics were clear to our oldest, the small games make great kids games as well since their compactness (both literally and in time) mean you aren't spending days waiting for the game to play out. In our house these Ticket to Ride games provide a nice balance to the cooperative games we also play.

first journey for $11 is a fantastic deal. Objectives are cut down to size but there's still plenty of strategy, especially when you play with 4 players.
