Been waiting for this coffee maker to go on sale and it finally has. This is not the lowest price ever, but it is $5 from it. Free Shipping from all stores.

Description:
Switch between batch brew and single cups at the flip of a switch with the Oxo Brew 8 Cup Coffee Maker! A successor to the well-loved 9 cup brewer, the Oxo 8 cup is built to brew at the right time and temperature for SCA's Gold Cup certification. Features like a wide spray arm, 40-ounce capacity, and auto drip stop make the 8 Cup easy to live with for those early mornings. Maintenance is equally easy with a wide mouth carafe and a dedicated cleaning program. Best of all, the brewer's unique single cup setting lets you brew single cups or travel mugs using regular Kalita Wave filters.

You have no clue what you're talking about. You aren't a snob given your comments. You've said a lot of things but none are relevant to why this machine is far superior to a cheap one. The most expensive Krups coffee maker isn't SCAA certified and I doubt you owned the Braun one that is.

Cheap coffee makers do not get as hot as this. They do not have remotely close to the same shower head. They do not brew nearly as fast. The SCAA has explicit requirements for brew time to certify coffee makers. The cheap ones don't do it.

I doubt the beans you're using are quality, but to make such ignorant comments is laughable.

To people who care: quality for this is on par with Bonavita but the machine is better made and more durable. Great if you need to make a large pot that will produce a quality cup for multiple people.
I had the Bonavita 5 cup version that was great for years but finally replaced it with this one. The Bonavita had plastic parts that broke during cleaning. I prefer this Oxo but both were great for an auto drip coffee maker. I like the cleaning mode of this maker. My only complaint with the Oxo is the stand under the dripper. You can have it flat to fit the pot or flip it to give you 3/4" for a tall mug. Anything shorter than a tall mug leaves too much room and you get some splashing from drips. I found this 3d print and it fits perfectly in the base, just adjust the height to fit your mugs.

Specifically a few things.
1) the rainfall showerhead keeps water streaming evenly over all the beans.

2) Precision heating elements make the water exit at very specifically controlled temperature.

3) General design allows the water to steep for a very specifically controlled time.

Not to mention a 4) preprogrammed ability to "bloom" of the grounds and wetting of the filter.

This yields for more even extraction of coffee from the beans at their expected "sweet spot."

Of course you could try to dial it in even more which is what the clover machines were doing.

It can be a night and day difference with regular beans and not just for coffee snobs. It's like stepping up from the $6-$8 bottle of wine to the $15-$30 bottles.

You really don't know until you've tried it.

Some people can't tell or don't care for the difference between $6 wine and $30. To those people, keep calm and carry on!

Black and Decker makes a nice 12 cup insulated carafe model that goes on sale for around 50 bucks. Tastes good and has a self cleaning mechanism. I have been using one for about a year with no complaints. Save a buck or two.

For anyone using this for a single serving with a mug (aka 10oz/2 cup), I would suggest preheating your mug. I was using a Bunn MyCafe MCU before which brewed faster, so the coffee in the mug was noticeably hotter. Preheating the cup with some hot water helped with the Oxo.

Fantastic coffee maker, however one annoyance is that after removing the carafe lid and literally putting the carafe upside down, not all of the coffee will come out. There's almost like a small lip liquid can stay on. So when you wash it and turn it upside down, it doesn't totally dry, I always have to wipe it out. Other than that, if the stand for a single cup was a little taller to avoid the splatter it would be absolutely perfect. But still worth it IMO for the consistency of coffee I get. I was buying decent beans with a crappy very old Mr Coffee and wasted a lot of money because the machine just wasn't capable of making a quality cup (the certification criteria really does matter).

If you like great and consistent coffee and use decent beans or ground coffee, this would likely be a worthy purchase if it's in the budget. The minor annoyances do not outweigh the benefits of having this and I would purchase again.

Ooooh -- I'll take the last word Smilie

This video really goes into depth about the different factors that make a good pot/cup of coffee and also did do all the testing on a lot of points people here are making. It convinced me to really look for something better than a cheap coffeemaker.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHEt2hEEeWQ (It really gets into it around the 2:58 mark)

And I still stand by comparable alternative to the OXO, etc. -- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QM274FC -- it's been pretty nice for me so far Smilie

I am not a coffee snob but this machine makes the best coffee I have ever had that I didn't either buy or receive in a coffee snob's house. It has raised the bar for me as to what I will accept as a cup of coffee when I visit people's houses or where I will even buy coffee now. Wish I had never bought it for these reasons. Coffee used to be simple.

No...I have a job. Y'all can find excuses to spend more monies. The cheap coffeemakers brew at the same temperature. No "buts" no "ifs"....again...hot water poured over coffee grounds. There nothing more to say beyond this. I've been through this in the past wasting monies on what I thought was a better coffee maker. The other commenter's reply was just an attempt to make himself sound superior. Whatever makes him feel better....Y'all can get your last word in...don't have time.
No. Once again you're stating "facts" that are demonstrably false. People have done various instrumented tests on these things. Not all heating elements are created alike, not all temperature & flow controls are programmed alike, not all spray heads are created alike, not all filters are created alike. These differences matter. Your argument is akin to saying all cars are the same because they all have an engine, tires, seats, and a steering wheel, so anyone who buys a Lexus is an idiot since they could just get a Mitsubishi Mirage for 1/4 the cost.

If you bought a good coffee maker and your coffee still sucks, consider using fresher beans and a good grinder. Again, these things all matter. If mediocre coffee gets the job done for you then that's fine, but don't come in here "informing" people of how a better, more expensive product is a waste of money because you can't notice a difference.

What is the difference between this $140 coffee maker and $20 coffee maker, except the metal carafe?
Many people have correctly pointed out that temperature is the most important factor. Related to that is the consistent temperature control during the entire brewing cycle. The cheap ones using a heat coil cannot possibly give you a constant temperature. The key is PID. Does it have it? If yes, then it should give you a great cup of coffee. That's it.

Personally, I don't buy anything that says "Ninja". Had bad experience with their other products. But does it have a PID (temperature controller)? Check their product details. If yes, it should be fine.

BBB has a 25% off coupon for new subscribers, looks like you can get one off a new email address if you haven't used it before on the site. It brings it down to 103.99.
