Note that the trade values on their website do not reflect the extra promo credit.

Some examples:

Nintendo Switch Lite console with a base trade value of $75 ($82.50 for Pros) would net $100 of trade credit ($107.50 for Pros)

Playstation 5 disc console with a base trade value of $300 ($330 for Pros) would net $350 of trade credit ($380 for Pros)

Also note that GameStop is still running their spend $250 save $25 promo. So if you're trading in a console toward the purchase of a new one that costs >$250, that's some extra savings right there. For example, Pro members trading in a PS5 disc console would effectively have $405 credit toward a new console purchase.

I don't understand what you have to gain by spreading false information. As stated in the OP, the trade values on their website do not reflect the extra promo credit. Anyone who doubts this can call their local store to confirm.

Are you saying I could buy a used PS5 Pro for$175 and get trade-in credit at GameStop for $405? If so, does that credit ever expire?

Not quite. You can buy a used PS5 disc console (the trade in values are slightly lower for the digital console) and get $380 trade credit (if you're a Pro member, $350 for non-Pros). And if you apply that trade credit toward the purchase of a new console (or anything else) over $250, you get an additional $25 in savings. As far as I know, the credit never expires. And the $25 off $250 is a permanent promo, at least for the time being.

There's one on FB Marketplace near me for $175 right now (disc version). If everything is in good working order and I give it a cursory clean, would I get a full price trade-in for it? I'm new to this, so I'm not really sure how GS trade-ins work.

Yep, you should. There are things they might make small deductions for, such as if it's missing items (cords, stand) or if the controller has stick drift. But YMMV on that, as some employees will sometimes overlook those things and give you the full credit. I did the same thing about a month ago, bought a cheap disc version on Facebook and traded it in. It was missing the stand, which is supposed to be about a $5 deduction in the trade value, but they gave me the full value anyway.

Sure but at $175 I would be highly cautious. Send to good to be true. Make sure to ask them to take a video of them turning it on, inserting a disc and playing it for a few minutes, and most importantly... Connecting to PlayStation network! I wouldn't be surprised if the console is banned.

Good advice. I spend a lot of time looking at video game stuff on FB/OfferUp and have noticed it's rife with scams on consoles. Be wary of anyone who won't let you test the console first, and especially anyone who asks you to send them money before meeting up. But every once in a while, you will find someone who is actually just offering a good deal.

Seems like a good way to buy a used one, and then buy a new one for cheap. Assuming I buy a PS5 Slim (disc) for $175 + $25 (Pro Membership) I'm out $200. Trade in for $330 store credit, nets $130. Buy a new PS5 Slim digital) for $390. The total cost of PS5 Digital Slim, accounting for all debits and credits, would be ~$260 (~$307 for PS5 Slim disc). That seems like a pretty good deal if I'm doing my math right. Feel like double checking my math? And thank you for all your responses thus far.

Yeah no problem, and that sounds about right. People justifiably crap on GameStop and their Pro membership for a lot of reasons, but if you're resourceful and wait for them to run the right promos, you can really get things to work out in your favor. I have "made" hundreds of dollars off GameStop just in the past couple months mostly by scouring FB/OfferUp for cheap stuff and trading it in for considerably more credit than I spent.

So if I traded in an OG Switch I would get $162.50 (with the $25 dollar bonus & as a pro member). Use that credit to go online & get a new OLED Switch & get $25 off the $250 & another $25 bonus for in store pick up? Is that right?
