Brackets are roughly $5 or $6 in store times 8 is $40. Plus the $10 of screws is $50 of stuff in here

You can use these for tons of things that are square or rectangular like a work bench of garage shelves or ceiling shelves. I'll probably build some ceiling shelves. Dreading buying plywood
In general, Simpsons fasteners are structurally rated. They go out and get the testing done to certify strength against typical building codes and "guarantee" (not literally) performance in application. One would believe they also go to greater lengths to maintain that performance over time. For most structural applications that will be inspected, nails or certified screws are the only options. Your typical drywall, deck, sheetmetal, or even machine screws will get rejected.

Can't speak to these specifically, but that's definitely the case for their joist hanger, truss, and hurricane tie screws.
Idk why the td, but these are great. In for 3 like op said, good to have around the house haha.

Curse you sd!!

In for a few sets. Ignoring the screws, this is about half off the best price I could find for individual or bulk prices of the RTC2Z brackets

Why are the screws so expensive? What makes them special from regular wood screws. Same with the brackets;they seem like they'd cost a $1 ea.

I picked up one those Shelf Links kits awhile back, for about the same price, and it seemed to do more, but this seems really basic.

Not crapping on the deal, genuinely curious

Yeah... I'm a tool and hardware snob (living in a salty, hot, humid region, I have to be) so I rarely use gurdwara that's not stainless. But for other aspects, the screws spent bad.

I've definitely taken a liking to the 316 Strong-Tie screws. It has everything I like in a screw (Giggity). But seriously, I've bought and used nearly every screw out there, and there's so few that fit a torx head properly. They don't stay on the bit for anything. And being good steel, magnetic is worthless.

Wow. I know there's cheaper screws but never really thought about the inspection aspect. Makes sense. Thanks. The nerd part in me is really tempted to look up cases where the builder messed up largely because of poor quality screws.

When I built my house a few years ago, the architect required simpson strong tie hardware in the plans. Named all the brackets by part number even,

My guess is most typical household items are overengineered anticipating mediocre input materials. I work in the space industry where every bolt requires engineering justification, and everything requires certs. Apparently the biggest source of fraud is in electronics components, like parts you use to build an actual circuit. Even from reliable vendors we still have to do in-house QC and fraud checks to look for counterfeit capacitors and such.

My Lowes said they had 29 in stock and couldn't find any.. another Lowes said the same thing.. just ordered a few online for free shipping instead. Man.. My experiences at HD tend to be better than Lowes… maybe it's just the Lowes in my area
