It's amazing in that each button is programmed separately directly from another remote. You can use 1 button for tv power, 1 button for sound bar, volume buttons for sound bar, channel buttons for cable box etc. You could program one to an old fan that has a remote or a window A/C unit. Literally each button can do anything that another (IR) remote can do.
How would I use this with my Chromecast remote? It seems like most of the buttons are redundant. What would be some applications for A and B buttons? Is this thing intended to control a third device like a DVD?
Had one for an older Roku that didn't have the power and volume buttons and it was useful.

My Apple TV's remote basically turns on my TV and goes immediately to the source where the Apple TV is connected. Then I can control my TV's volume with my Apple TV controller. Can this device control the TV's source to switch to TV back and then control the TV channels up and down?

Does the power button actually work with the shield?

The only thing Chromecast remote cannot do is switch input for me and I feel like $13 is just bit much to get one functionality.

Which Apple TV remote controls the HDMI input? Unless I've missed something over the past several years, the black remote doesn't change inputs. Maybe the new silver remote with Apple TV 4K?
He's probably talking about HDMI-CEC. TV should automatically switch to the active HDMI port but it doesn't support switching over to other HDMI inputs.

Yes it can. All of the buttons are programmable. You'll have to remember what each button does if you program them to other things but there are:
  • 1 power button
  • 2 volumes (up and down)
  • 2 channels (up and down)
  • 1 input button
  • 1 A button
  • 1 B button

I have a Chromecast with Google TV, and I set it up this way:
  • Power button for the Chromecast because it will automatically power my tv on and off
  • Volumes buttons for the my Vizio soundbar
  • Channel buttons for my Sony tv
  • Input button for channel return (for when I'm watching between two football games and want to switch back and forth)
  • A for Enter Selection
  • B to bring up the channel guide feature on my tv. The channel buttons allow me to move up and down, and the A button allows me to select a channel.

What are you talking about? The chromecast remote literally has a input button built into it on the bottom right side.

Doesn't work on a lot of TV. It's a known issue.

won't this cover the headset jack on roku?
Yeah, it looks like it will cover it. If you use the headset jack a lot then this isn't for you. You can always use the headset jack with a smart device and the roku app. But then again, you are using 2 remotes...

Not trying to be a dick, but have you tried factory resetting the remote and/or chromecast and remapping the remote again to see if it solves the problem?
