Has anyone found a USB flash drive that they're actually happy with for regular consumer use? Like reasonable read *and* write performance, decent reliability, decent price? Seems like everything these days is either disappointingly slow or unreliable.

Same price on Amazon now.
Amazon.com: TEAMGROUP C183 256GB USB 3.2 Gen 1 (USB 3.1/3.0) USB Flash Thumb Drive, External Data Storage Memory Stick Compatible with Computer/Laptop (Black) TC1833256GB01 : Electronics
Some of the comments (I know, do your own research and make your own conclusion) mention that c188 has a problem with sustained transfer speeds with large files and recommend the c175. The 128 GB model is currently on sale for $10.99 but backordered until December.
Is this a better deal than SanDisk 128G USB 3.0 for 10.99 in Best Buy?
Neither if you need to transfer large files. This drive has USB caching issues, and will show down to a crawl after a few seconds with a large file. The SanDisk will do the same due to thermal throttling as it overheats. If you're going to only put small files on it, like word documents, either is fine.

I think people have had better experience with Samsung drives, but I personally haven't really used flash drives often. Hopefully someone can comment on this. I'd like to know if there is anything out there. Would be nice to have one of these for on the go media storage without having to carry around a hard drive or SSD.

Lol
Get one of each brand and you may find that they all have inconsistent read write speeds. What you don't want to have is something that crawls down to USB 1.0 speeds. I have some drives where if they can sustain over 60mbps I'm happy with that.
If you want fast storage. Get one of those m.2 to usb 3 sleds and attach an m.2 drive to it. Depending on your usb and m.2 drive you can get 200-400mbps speeds.
Maybe you have a spare ssd laying around. Convert to a usb external storage drive with an adapter.
You can still get the sandisk 256gb, usb 3.0 at walmart.. OD/OM or BestBuy should be able to PM Walmart and not worry if you will get this by the end of the year.. Model # SDCZ48-256G-AW46 is $19.28 at Walmart ..
Read speeds of up to 130MB/s; write speeds of up to 10X faster than standard USB 2.0 drives
High speed USB 3.0 performance
SanDisk SecureAccess software with 128 bit AES encryption and password protection
5 year limited warranty..

I have a 16GB ~2010 Kingston Data Traveler G3 which still has MLC flash. It's a beast!!!
Seriously, for people who go through lots of flash drives, use a couple of utils to see the chips in them. At least, you can keep track of the bad batches/hardware versions. Sandisk does not respond to these tools, unfortunately.

Like I said, a good drive for a year, but don't leave anything important on it.
