Incorrect. I just made all of our shirts for Disney today and I don't pay for the membership. I use etsy for designs and download any Disney fonts I need from DaFont for free.

If you're going to buy (or not buy) something, it pays to learn a little about it instead of spouting things that may or may not be true.
You are right...for now. They walked back on their decision back in March https://www.theverge.com/2021/3/1...load-limit.

Dude, do you even process info? Maybe not today or tomorrow, but some day Cricut will phase out this machine and you will no longer be able to cut your custom files.

Look it up, "Cricut is limiting the use of its crafting machines with a monthly subscription"

There are other postings about them pulling this kind of non-sense trying to milk every penny out of their customers. You have been warned.

Could be but you are also describing a lot of CE products sold today. iPhones, PCs, game consoles, VR headsets, etc all stop getting updates and manufacturer support at some point and become relics. Cricut has said it is grandfathering all machines registered by end of the year, so I bought. I don't see need for deep concern here.

I guess they could go back on their word but the loss of good will would cost them much more than they could make by forcing paid subs to continue using the machine. All these grandfathered Cricuts still use proprietary supplies. I imagine those sales would plummet if they dared and those users would go elsewhere. I think Cricut learned it's lesson last spring.

LOL… "On3 Day TH3rE gUnNa ChaRg3 FeR 1T."

They're not now, and the backlash from that ill fated announcement has likely pushed that decision off a long time. In the meantime, the machine does a lot of stuff and is VERY useable without a subscription.

They have been trying to do this for the last couple of years. Slowly but surely, you will be screwed.

WARNING: Don't buy as Cricut will force you to buy online membership in order for you to use your machine. That is, you must connect to the internet and communicate with their mother ship for you to use "your" cutter. They did this to me, my previous Cricut machine no longer allows me to make custom cuttings (states my hardware is no longer supported) so I had to throw it away as Cricuit stated that I needed to buy their latest model. No offline custom cutting... You have been warned.
Do you recommend a different machine?

This was something that concerned me a lot and the Silhouette Cameo looked like a much more attractive option, but the woman I share a house with is dead set on getting a Cricut machine. At the very least Inkscape looks like a good open-source software alternative instead of using the Cricut proprietary software.
With Inkscape, if I understand it correctly, you still need to use the Cricut Design Space.

You can create your image in Inkspace, but then to have it go to the Cricut machine, you need to save it as an SVG and upload it using it Cricut Design Space (and you are limited to how many images you can upload per month unless you pay a monthly fee). Is that correct?

Correct, in my case, I had two Cricut machines that Cricut decided to not support and now they are useless. They sent me an email stating I needed to buy their latest machine.... yea, right so they can keep milking me for money?

I guess I should have read the comments first before purchase, but I can still return it if need be. Bought for the wife @ Michael's for $229 promo sale.

So ya are saying you CANNOT use your own:
- customs designs if it's not connected to the internet?
- can't operate the machine
- REQUIRES a paid monthly subscription
