reading the reviews got me all scared

I was gonna buy my own ram and put one in, even thinking about getting the same one it comes with and just adding it.

Then i read that computer runs REALLY hot and ram is locked in the BIOS

Should i pull the trigger? I have a 3070 and was hoping to sell the 3080 to recuperate the cost.

If gamer and edu stack to make these slicker, I wish someone had tried and told me so I could add to post. lol. $1566 for the 3080 is kind of a big deal but not too much cheaper.

that's 3060. 3080 non LHR makes around $7 per day.

There are multiple links to configurators for Pavilion and Omen. Make sure youre on the builder for Omen and aren't looking for those gpu on Pavilion link as it tops out at the 3060.

Tbh the Frontpage listing is less clear than my original post. I listed more configurations in the title and posted 2 hyperlinks in the body to the different configurations and deliberately didn't put in a url into the field to avoid any auto-generated links for one or the other.

**UPDATED** EDU works with the 10gamer2021 code confirmed. Total with the RTX 3080 = $1,566.89

I got my HP Omen 30L RTX 3080 in early Nov. and the rear fan was LOUD!!! The cpu runs at about 74-80c normal and 99-101c while gaming. (I haven't installed my after market liquid cooling yet) Love the case and the lighting, but dang I couldn't handle the fan noise.

I upgraded the rear fan ($10 Noctua NF-B9 92mm) and it helped a ton. I'm debating whether I want to do the front bottom one, because I do like the LED customization you can do. However, the rest of the fans are not bad and very tolerable.

I also upgraded to 32gb ram RGB ($109) and a Liquid Cooling unit RGB ($49)

I only spent $160 extra so far and very satisfied with my purchase.

Things to note:
* 3rd Party RAM worked fine without any need for software or bios. Windows reported it at 3200 without any issue.
* There are 3 M2 slots, but 1 of them has the wireless/bluetooth in it and the other has the main drive installed. So you technically only have 1 extra M2 for another drive.
* There was an issue with the Omen Gaming Hub where the update before last broke the fan management. I had to uninstall the software temporarily, but they fixed it within 2 weeks, and I have it running again. You need that software to control the RGB elements.

Did you try EDU with the 10gamer2021 code? I don't have an EDU to check or verify but someone else said it worked.

I tried adding a note about that to the body of my original post, but it may or may not show depending on how someone is viewing. The downside of going frontpage. My intent was to list multiple notable config prices, links to two builders, and make sure people knew they were part of the same customizable deal. Now the title is a lot less informative than my original was, and a "buy" button was added that goes to the Pavilion builder specifically, which I intentionally tried to avoid. But I digress. They did put "more configurations" and hopefully more people will be able to see the deal now.

OMG it totally worked with my EDU!! It totaled $1,566.89 that's $71.10 cheaper!!!!

Went from $1637.99 to $1566.89 for the same system! WOW!

Not sure about refunding the difference. I just wish I'd known this combo would work before making the post or it going front page. Probably worth a new post for EDU specifically, tbh, but I don't have an EDU to check that it works with all configurations or list what the new pricing would be.

All my kid plays is World of Warcraft online playing against a ton of other players. Any advise on what system will be good enough for him? Thinking of buying him a 32" curved screen too but unsure what the best value gaming desktop I should buy for him.

Honestly, I've played WoW in the past on systems that are worse than all of these. Hell, my current system is worse than all of these except for having more RAM. lol

But if you're planning on spending on a fancy monitor, I'm not sure how the current game would run on max settings and higher resolution/refresh with the cheapest options. A couple of the better configurations IMO are either the Omen 3080 for $1610 or Pavilion 3060 for $908.

If you want to go in the middle and play games well as-is without needing (or knowing how) to upgrade anything, you might go with the Omen 25l 3060ti ($1188) but upgrade to 16gb ram and 512gb SSD for a final price of $1314. The Omen 30l with the same features would be $1386 and might provide better airflow.

Also, if you have an EDU login, make sure to try that with code 10gamer2021 to see if you can get an even better deal.

RTX 3060 will be plenty and last long enough until he gets older and wants to play higher end games.
