I tried with an old Hulu email account, but was ineligible. Tried with a new email, but was ineligible.
Figured out I could not get the offer to go through until I switched to a different credit card than I had used before.
Note: The failed attempts have created new logins since the ineligibility was only determined after entering my info and then CC.
If you can, I suggest using (or switching to after account created) a fresh virtual card (e.g. Citicard) set with a low limit (e.g. $3) and expiring Jan 2023. Just in case you forget to cancel before rate changes.

If you have an existing account and want to access this deal, you can delete your Hulu account (Login, select Account, click California Privacy Rights, click Start Deletion). You will need to verify your email, etc. but this will delete your account and you can sign up using your original email and credit card for the 99c deal. You will lose all of your profiles and watch history. - bargainr
Free Hulu: Use a barclay's credit card. They will waive the .99 charge at month close assuming you dont use it for other charges/expenses.

I read in the comments last year about Discover card paying for your Hulu charge as long as its less than $2.00.
The deal last year was $1.99 and my discover card was paid for by them. They call it a low balance complimentary thing.
They paid for my hulu for the entire year. It should apply this year again, since it is still below $2.00.

Also if you dont want ads, watch with adblocker in a browser. Keep in mind extensions like adblocker do not work in mobile mode. You will have to change your browser to desktop mode and your adblocker will continue to work for hulu.
I do not use the hulu app for shows. I use the app for movies only on big tv. They only play one short ad for movies, but have a ton of ads during shows. So ill switch to a browser for anything other than a movie.

I've been doing these Hulu deals every year around this time for the past 3-4 years. I just alternate Hulu accounts each year between two emails to keep on the $1.99 or $0.99 deal for another year.
Current accounts aren't eligible.
Accounts that have been active in the past month are also ineligible.
Create a new one and be done.
