This is a great, basic fixed blade knife at a great price. The only thing you non-knife folks need to know is that high carbon steel will stain and rust. Heck, even stainless steel will rust if not kept clean and oiled, but high carbon steel will do so much easier. Some folks will force a patina on them using acidic substances like apple cider vinegar or even mustard to protect the blade from rusting. At a minimum, keep the blade clean, dry and oiled at all times and avoid food prep with it.

Morakniv makes it's line of knives in stainless steel at great prices as well. I recommend the Morakniv Companion for a few bucks more in stainless, with a softer, more grippy handle, but the Basic 511 model is a lot of knife for the money. Maybe the best, basic fixed blade knife around dollar for dollar.

These are sturdy knives, but not full-tang. Lightweight and universally loved and well-reviewed, very popular with hikers or outdoors and for craft/utility usage. Not the knife to try to baton through a chuck of firewood with, get an axe for that. Cheep as chips, you'll be tempted to buy more than one. Come in lot of bright colors which make them easy to find if dropped on a trail.

And, if you start down the Morakniv rabbit hole there are plenty of models to upgrade to. Don't say we didn't warn you.

Ugh, DON'T do it ! Save yourself and don't buy that first knife, the gateway knife. Just stick with the kitchen knives you already have, don't go down that rabbit hole. This is only half a joke by the way. I have several dozen knives and every single one is unique to me and has a feature I just had to have. Sadly most of said knives are unused, just bought for the neat-o factor. Mora knives are good quality knives at a great price and very practical and usable. Really though, just don't do it. Stop it before you even begin.

I would say spend the few bucks more for any Morikniv other than than Basic. I hate the handles on the Basic. I have a bunch of other Morikniv from the companion on up and love them. The Basic though just feels as cheap as it is actually.

Basic does not have a sharpened spine. Needs just a few minutes to fix it so you can use it on ferro rod

This is what I keep in my Jeep center console as my utility knife. I love this thing. Super sharp out of the box, good size, durable enough, and if it breaks, it was cheap. It can't compete with my SOG Seal Pup Elite for durability and taking abuse, but frankly it doesn't need to. This is a great knife for the money. Anyone who likes knives should have one.

Sad to see Amazon selling weapons of mass destruction.
The only thing these knives are going to destroy before it arrives is my wallet and money.

I know high carbon steel is easier to sharpen etc. but it sucks. It starts rusting the minute you take it out the sheath.

I love my mora stainless I got for sub $10 on slick 2 years back.
