Inside is one of the best games I've ever played. The last part of the game left my jaw on the floor
Inside and Slay the Spire are very good games. Slay the Spire might be better on tablet or even cell phone than Switch. Highly recommended though.
Lol oh okay. That makes sense.
In that case, there is no way of purchasing the games without opening the box. Luckily, the boxes don't come with any seals that would indicate that they have been opened so it is often suggested here to open the box and boot up the console, setup your Nintendo account, then buy and install any games before wrapping up the console. An added benefit to doing this is that the console will be ready to play upon unwrapping so your kids won't have to wait around to download any system updates or long game downloads.

Inside is a classic indie (read: must play, quick play) for $2. Same dev as Limbo. Just buy it!
Slay the Spire is where deck building and rogue like meets perfection! Worth every penny at full price (normally $25) and only $10 right now. I have found that it meets the expectations of casual and hardcore gamers. Although you don't have to be really good at math to play, it will give you an edge as you can essentially predict your moves as there is no RNG just the randomness of drawing cards from a deck.
Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition for $15 this is a steal if you like JRPGs and being a completionist. Digimon are really weird, could be overwhelming and not interesting to kids/adults not familiar with digimon in the first place. Has some nostalgia factor.
Spiritfarer - if you like animal crossing you will like this game but IMO $10 is the ideal price for this game due to it's polish/length ($30 is full price)
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a must play and for $20 but I would play on a gaming PC or console if available. If you don't have (or plan on getting) a playstation/Xbox/ or capable computer then by all means, check it out on Switch.
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition a great JRPG, still newish for the Switch hence the $35 price tag. If you are in search of a polished JRPG, here you go. Or if you've never played a JRPG this is a good one to dip your toes in. Don't let the number 11 scare you, the games are standalone story wise. Music is fantastic and the main characters are fun!
It's unbelievable that the switch can run Witcher 3. I'm countless hours in on it. I haven't played it on any other system and I know graphics have suffered compared to other systems but it's still a great experience.
Great list. I'm completely new to the Switch. I take it the digital versions of Mario Kart and Smash Bros probably won't go on sale?
First party Nintendo titles occasionally go on sale, more often the boxed version than the download, usually at most for $5 or $10 off. Those are good games to buy using discounted gift cards.

Never heard of this game but bought anyway. Hope it is good as people say it is.
Personally, I enjoyed their first game, Limbo, more, but I agree it's a must play especially if you like puzzle platformers. With that said, even if you don't like that genre, it's worth at least one go.
Some additional recommendations that haven't been mentioned yet:
Bulletstorm - awesome old school FPS, way over the top but still a ton of fun on Switch. Call of Juarez is also worth picking up when it's this price if you like old school FPS.
Katana Zero - Great platformer with a time slowing mechanic. Amazing style, can't wait for the sequel
Dark Souls: Remastered - Great port, being able to play in small chunks made it much more feasible for me to play through it (tough to find time for such things with kids, jobs, a dog etc.). If you are experiencing drift, fix that first otherwise certain areas like Sens will be way tougher than they need to be.
It is on PC and mobile, but the experience would NEVER be the same. This thing was designed to be played with a wii remote, and the devs replicated this with the switch's joycon controller. According the Nintendo Life (a source that I trust), they did it perfectly.
I have also been waiting a long for this to go on sale, and this is a historic low according to dekudeals.
