As a previous synology owner I can confirm there are also a lot of problems and security issues. In fact, all these internet-connected devices could be a victim of ransomeware/malware. IMO, instead of saying who has problems, it's more useful to share some tips regarding data backup and protection.
I bought this a year ago, probably the worst purchase of my life. Two full data losses that were QNAPs fault (one ransomware, one bad drive management). Working with support is like pulling teeth. I bought this to be "easy" but I've spent hours upon hours fighting the bad interface, absolutely nonexistent error messages, etc.
Looking to basically bite the $450 I paid for it and migrate to Synology this week.
Stay away.
PC consumes more power than these devices
PC you have to maintain software..its a constant battle
There are several developers working for us in these systems to update the software and security make these systems better everyday

Qnap had lots of security issues. Be careful if you purchase one.

It's true, QNAP software is garbage. I have TS-212 and 453be. They are awfully slow.
After using most brands, Qnap which is what I been now using for over 7+ years I would disagree with you. The 212 is old as for your 453Be I had for 2 years upgraded to 16 gigs no issues whatsoever, still got it sitting in box which I have to sell cause I switched to the 653D. So user experiences vary but most will not say its "slow" not even close when you compare it to other brands. This will run circles around any same priced or higher synology units.

I would worry more about their software quality. After almost 6 years, I am done with their ts-251+. Too many issues causing breakage and wasted time.
