New to NAS. Just starting to gather hardware. Looking at a DS220+ . I know the 10 TB drive is sold out but is it better than the other deal that was posted https://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-e...d=6425303?

Are the 6tb ones good? They seem slower than the 7200rpm but not that much. Would you notice the difference if this is really for storage and not Plex
No, you wouldn't. Unless you have 50 people using your server at the same time.

I just bought a 220+ to replace my 212j. I have 2 2tb drives in raid( where they are clones of each other).
I I know I cant just move the drives as need to use Hyper backup to backup the data and move it over.

Is it better for me to just buy new drives?

These are like 5 years old?

Thanks so much. Grabbed 4 x6tbs on Amazon... 5 down 2 more to get
I couldn't be happier, I cancelled 2 of the amazon drives and bought 2 each at Newegg and WD direct. That allowed me to spread the purchases just in case of bad batch.

That gives me all 6 drives for my NAS (Raid-Z2, 24 TB), and a spare I bought before for the outrageous price of 110 vs 105. And saved me 200 smackeroonies on my raid's initial cost.

Now to wait on Zen 3D or Zen 4 to upgrade my current rig, to turn the old one into a NAS

I'm seeing the 3tb for the same price as 2tb, any reason no to purchase the 3?

Thanks, ordered the 6TB from Amazon, I am running out of space on my Plex/file share server. Plus those drives are not NAS grade and I've been a little worried about them, had them for several years now.

Thanks for the heads up, I didnt even notice that Amazon limits it to 2 drives, I need 4 for that DS920+ deal LMAO

I just picked up 4x 6TB drives to do a Raid 5 setup: https://www.synology.com/en-us/su...calculator

I wanted to go bigger but after 6TB all the drives start being $200+ each vs $105 each @6TB and I dont really think ill need more than 6TB anyway for a long time.

You want to space purchases or use different retailers to prevent same batch failures as possible
