They also act as hearing protection, for ex the sound of the lawn mower is much less than when I just put in ear buds

I've been using these for a few years. I connect to my phone via bluetooth to listen to music while mowing. They work great and sound nice. The range is short, so I have to keep my phone in my front pocket the whole time. I've never tried making a call with them - I'm not even sure if they have a mic.

Bought these 10/2018 for $35.xx and have used the crap out of them. Love these things. Super comfortable after several hours, battery lasts forever. (I've got a big head too)
When I'm on my backhoe I can't hear my phone ring which can be a problem. With these I know when someone is calling.
Great for mowing the lawn or just working around the house with tunes

They do have a mic. You can see it in the second picture. It's a little tiny dot underneath the M. I don't make calls with them very often, but I've never had anyone complain about not being able to hear me.

Acknowledging that the price points are very different - How do these compare to the passive and active isolation afford by something like a pair of over the ear Bose QC35's?

I had these and though I am not at all an audiophile, I really did not like the sound quality. On the other hand, if you use them while mowing, it probably would not matter that much. I bought them for plane trip and eventually settled for noise canceling headphones instead. Noise cancelation works well in the constant roaring of a plane, as well as these but much better sound quality available at the same price. But otherwise, it is comfortable and well made.

I find that active cancelation works similarly well in plane/cars. But for just loud with random noise environments, these here will be much better.

Just adding my two cents, these really are awesome, Ive had a pair for years and while they arent audiophile headphones, they get the job done well! For this price its a no brainer if you dont already have a pair!
