Serial number on the box shows the year and month it was manufactured and it was something like 5+ years ago.
(Trying to remember off the top of my head, I think serial is in the form of #BYYMM### if you're picking up in store)

* the audible alarm can be set to OFF per the manual
* it does not have a USB port for connecting a PC or NAS
* the battery can NOT be replaced by the end-user
* a runtime graph is also listed on the product page ( about 2-minutes when load is 350 watts )

But I am seeing a link to a replacement battery, does the manual state that you can't actually replace it?

I second your post. APC is as reliable as they come. I had a few UPSs that worked well for me. Also had them in data centers and they were workhorses that worked beyond their rated life.

It just involves a loooong screwdriver to get at the screws. I have an old one I've been meaning to get a new battery for that I recycled the old one
had odd battery sizes. Batteries are difficult to find and expensive.
Will the one that's never used go stale for the battery? Or will it retain its battery lifespan (of 5 years whatever), by not being used (not depleting the charge/recharging)? Ty

but, the manual says it is not a user replaceable battery, but thanks for letting me & everyone know you just need a long screwdriver . most likely APC wants people to just buy a new UPS or take the UPS into a service center.

It sounds like APC just wants the users to take the battery in for "repair"/replacement or buy a new UPS.
the battery is $44 directly from APC, but I'm sure it is cheaper on ebay.
.
It's too bad because I needed some new UPSes for my PCs, but without a USB port for monitoring, they are no good to me.
I actually have more than a dozen old APC and Belkin UPSes all of which still work, but the batteries always go bad. In the past it has been about $30-$35 for a new UPS vs. $20-$30 for some generic battery on eBay which rarely last beyond 1 year, almost like it's by design. I think all these eBay batteries, including ones for old cell phones, have been sitting on shelves for years, and they have no date stamps on them, so they just palm off old degraded never-used-before batteries on unsuspecting customers. For that reason I don't want to buy any more eBay batteries. I'd rather buy a new UPS instead of a "new" replacement battery. Too bad there are no deals on a 650VA BN UPS like past years.
Have you found a reputable place to buy quality replacement batteries at a good price?

Edit: I added it with something else and it went to the cart fine.
