There's a bunch of people in this thread, who are not the target audience for this product. Just because it's on sale, you don't have to buy it or justify it or make a case for/against it. Be happy with what you have (e.g., smart TV interface, FireTV, Google TV, etc) and let others enjoy their choice. I despise all Smart TV UI (Samsung, LG, RokuTV, Google TV) and no amount of money or "superior features" will make me use them. I switch back to that interface once in a while to update firmware, etc, but that's it. If that's the opposite of what you do, then great. Just don't treat your use case as the gospel truth.

No what you are linking is the 1ST generation model which came out in 2017

For $20 more you can get the 2ND generation model which came out in 2021

Well worth the $20

LG smart TV's Apple TV app definitely supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, so genuinely curious why else I might get this?

Sounds like AirPods and HomeKit compatibility might move the needle for folks who need those features
I run apps on the Apple TV that's not available through the Apple TV app on my TVs. My kids play games via Apple Arcade. If you only stream Apple TV content, then you don't need a streaming box with all the extras.

I purchased an Apple TV at Costco around 2 weeks ago. Does anyone know if I qualify for a price adjustment? Wasn't sure if this price was also available in store.

Other than better interface, what advantage does this give me over just using the Apple TV + app on my smart tv?

Apple TV performance and App Store largely superior to any smart tv. And Apple TV will continue to get iOS updates and app updates long after any TV brand stops supporting your specific model.

Apple TV is faster and will continue to be supported for much longer. Also has tons of apps available in the App Store.

For $10 extra, definitely get the 64GB version.
Unless you plan on downloading games on the Apple TV then the 32gb is plenty of space. But for $10 I guess I might go for that one. Even though I'll probably never need it.

I already have a 32gb in my living room and I'm not anywhere close to filling it up.

Buy2 $100 apple GC in Best Buy or Target and use them in apple.com to buy apple tv 4k for $199. You end up $30 best buy or Target and $50 apple GC.. For $30 more you get $80 GCs.. This may not be good deal for few but for me it's good this way.. Bought Beats ..

So if you have a smart TV do you really need devices like Roku, Apple TV or Chromecast. What additional value they add? I have a tv which support google cast and AirPlay 2.0. Had this question for a while.

Your smart tv won't be supported by the manufacturer very long and has limited applications.

1)No buffering on Apple TV 4K. I have Fire Stick 4K and it buffers every time I stream a video.

2) Video quality looks much better on Apple TV 4K compared to Fire Stick 4K.

3) If you have an iPhone, it's easy to broadcast the video your are watching from iPhone to your HDTV without technical issues.

4) Amazon brand product becomes worthless after 1 or 2 years.
