Deal Details
Amcrest has the popular home security Blue Iris 5 NVR software on sale for $49.49 = $54.99 - 10% [amcrest.com] ($20 off the original $69.99 price if buying direct from BlueIrisSoftware). Digital license delivery.

Use code HOLIDAY10 for the 10% off (thanks mrgino)

If you have a spare PC or will build one, drop Windows onto it, and run this software.
  • It will be compatible with major brands' IP PoE cameras (via ONVIF compatability, which major brands all support, aka Amcrest, Dahua, Hikvision, Axis, Reolink, etc)
  • Connect all cameras' Cat5e/6 cables to a PoE Switch, and connect that switch to your local network via one cable.
  • And your Blue Iris software detects them on the network.

Product information here [blueirissoftware.com], including the direct BI 5 download link (then you apply the license).

Is this for me, you might ask?
This is for DIY folks.

Alternately, you would buy a bundle deal with a specific brand's NVR (recorder) and cameras. But you are locked into that brand's cameras if you upgrade, you're forced into their UI, and you don't get the same feature-rich set that Blue Iris provides for more customizable motion detection and avoiding false alerts.

Last year's sale was cheaper by $5. Inflation.
edited to add mrgino's code.

sucks update expires in 1 year. You no longer get updates unless you buy it again.
