I have a Rift S and I just pulled the trigger and ordered the HP Reverb G2. The price is awesome for what you get. It has all the Valve Tech perks for comfort with the strap and over the ear audio. You get real IPD adjustment. Awesome display with no screen door effect. Better FOV than oculus and the faceplate is removable with an optional gasket for wearing glasses. The headset flips up too. This is the 2.1 version which they updated with better vertical camera tracking, cabling and removable faceplate gasket for better FOV if you don't wear glasses. Leave it in there by default otherwise.

As for the Quest 2 the G2 is even more comfortable unless you invest in the upgraded head strap but it lacks the same quality. The Quest is good but the screen is lower resolution than the G2. You can get a decent picture with wireless streaming but a direct wired connection is best for lower latency. You have to buy a long USB-C cable for the Quest 2 link to Pc and it must be of a good quality or it won't work. The Quest 2 has its own App Store requiring a Facebook account to use as a standalone headset or even to activate it for SteamVR use.

Price changed to $489 while in cart Frown
I still see $399. I think you've logged in using an EDU or EPP account.

I had the same issue. So I created a new ID and ordered as a general customer.

I've had this since launch and it has been a lot of fun. The visuals are crisp and it is a comfortable headset. My cons for it are the cable feels kind of heavy at times and the little clip that holds it on the back is/or was rather fragile. The headset/controls themselves feel kind of fragile, but they have withstood a few knocks over time. The controllers are adequate but are nothing amazing in terms of tracking/comfort. Recommend getting 1.6v rechargeable batteries if getting this, as I had heard of complaints of poor tracking at lower voltages. Overall, it's great for simulations and adequate for games like beat saber and shooters/sword play once you learn your tracking boundaries. Not sure if they fixed it, but I had to turn it off via the breakout box or it just stayed on (apparently this has been fixed). I had heard of a few people bricking their headset by pulling the cable from the goggles too. If you're into sims, the g2 is awesome.
I had the same experience the cable is heavy thick and stiff(I have Gen 2 cable). The clip is crap but an easy fix. I never had tracking issues but I always had 1.6v rechargeable lithium batteries. But after playing Alyx on the G2 I was blown away!

Had to return this product in the past. The controllers are absolutely terrible due to tracking.

This is the G2 Version 2, which apparently improves tracking:

As far as I can tell, the tracking coverage change to Reverb G2.1 is a straight improvement with no downsides. Tracking coverage is still not quite up to par with something like Quest, but it's better than it was.

At this point I might even go as far as saying that tracking coverage on Reverb G2.1 is good enough for the vast majority of VR experiences. If only HP could improve the headset's tracking latency overall (and some WMR-related finickyness) it would be hard not to recommend Reverb G2.1 as the best value PC VR headset on the market.

what's the pro/con of this vs the Oculus (besides price) ? This is only wired and requires a pc.. but is the quality way way better to make up for it? Also is it ok to use glasses with this?
Quest 2 is the best bang for the buck and if you dont want to have a ton of additional hardware like pc with decent gpu to power.

Okay, here's how I managed to add it.

Signed in to HP.

Rather than use the actual product page, I added the item to cart for the Black Friday page, which should be here:

honestly no reason not to go quest 2 considering the total wireless freedom instead.

Man once you go wireless it's impossible to go back to a wired setup.

I have a Quest 2 and a Samsung Odyssey, and have tried the reverb G2. WMR headsets are now far behind Oculus in terms of tracking. The G2 has a great display, but the benefits of the Oculus in its capability as a standalone headset / wireless PCVR headset make this at this price point hard to consider.
