The U8G does have serious QC issues and I wouldnt buy a HiSense without some type of warranty on it - preferably Costco or Best Buy

If you are buying from this deal you could always opt for warranty from SquareTrade/Allstate - for this set you are looking at roughly $170 for the warranty from Squaretrade

Also HiSense is a bit shady when it comes to the U8G and different sizes - the 55" has half the local dimming zones than the 65" and as another user mentioned has pretty bad red ghosting that has only been addressed in a firmware update with the 65"

Not trying to poop on HiSense - bought the $250 65" HiSense Black Friday deal last year and it was an awesome TV until it literally wouldnt power on after 1 month of light use. Luckily I had Geek Squad warranty and they replaced the TV but that turned me off on the brand a bit.

Another thing to consider when buying a QLED TV like the Sony x90j or the Samsung Qn90a is dirty screen effect (DSE) and banding problems.

Samsung Qn90a is pretty much considered the gold standard of QLED TVs followed by the Sony x95j and then the Sony x90j.

But take a look on forums (reddit/avsforums) and you will see that there is a considerable panel lottery with the Qn90a which sells for $1700 at Costco or $800 more than this deal.

Some people have returned multiple units for both Qn90a before getting one without terrible DSE/banding. Not so much with the x90j/x95j series TVs but definitely still has potential for DSE/banding as evidenced by people complaining how a trusted brand like Samsung/Sony can charge so much and have such terrible QC. Is the QC as bad as HiSense? No, but it's still an issue. I couldnt imagine the hassle of reboxing a 55-65" TV and hauling it back to the store multiple times. Even just reboxing it for a pick up seems like a daunting task.

Who wants to spend $1000+ on a TV and see dark splotches on certain parts of the screen or lines going thru content when you are watching? Dont believe me - google it or watch Youtube videos of people complaining.

If you are looking for a TV for superb media consumption and especially gaming and you are willing to shell out this type of money it's hard NOT to recommend an OLED.

If I am spending nearly $1000+ on a TV i would want it damn near perfect and while OLEDs are not without flaws (esp for certain conditions) - they are just about the best TV money can buy.

If your room is ultra bright (TV facing a window for example) or if you watch tons of TV with static elements like news logos/sports logos - then you should think twice about an OLED.

Yes the price for an OLED will be more but you will be getting more for your money. Some OLED rarely have banding issues but DSE/uniformity issues/blooming will never be present in 99% of OLEDs like either the Sony A80J or the LG C1 like in QLED TVs. There is a reason why they are priced higher.

An LG C1 from Best Buy at 65" (assuming that's what you want) will run you $2300 with 5 year warranty (never buy an OLED unless you get a warranty from Best Buy or Buydig/CPS as only those two companies cover burn in)

Personally I wouldnt spend $800-1000 on a HiSense especially without warranty but if $1400 is too much of a difference than go for it.

Alternatively you can grab a 55" LG C1 for roughly $1650 with 5 year warranty from best buy and at only $700 more that's a much better buy than a U8G 65" even if you are losing 10" in size.

If I was spending $1000+ on a TV id want to get at least 5 years of quality picture from that set - it's a bit different than spending $500 on a HiSense which almost makes it disposable at that price.

At this price (closer to $1000) it would benefit you to go for a higher end model from Sony/Samsung, who despite still having banding/DSE issues - will have far less of those issues than a HiSense model.

I would consider:
1. Your budget (If it's over $1000 go with the x90j, Qn90a, or the LG C1/Sony A80J)
2. Your room lighting (tons of bright lighting go with QLED vs OLED)
3. Your willingness to play the panel lottery and return and rebuy the same TV multiple times
4. Your burn in risk (what type of media you consume)
5. Your seriousness about gaming (nothing touches OLED esp the C1/A80J for next gen consoles)

There is no perfect TV in 2021 - it's that simple. Every type (QLED/OLED) and every manufacturer has its advantages and disadvantages.

It's up to you decide what is and isnt acceptable when you are dropping this kind of cash on a TV.

Until you place them side by side. Coming from someone who owns all the TV technology. But the U8G is damn impressive.

For all the Millenials this and Circuit City used to be best buys big competitors (at least on the east coast)

Regardless its an authorized retailer with the 100 day guarantee promo and this is a very good price

Can anyone give an honest opinion of this vs the Sony x90j?

Is the Sony worth 50% more (1200) for the 65 inch?

It sounds to me like the u8g is a better TV just has a shit ton of qc problems

(and I'm interested in gaming)

I bought the U8G months ago when BB had it for $1150. I love it. Definitely on par with LG OLED at abut half the price.

Trying to buy a TV for my dad and I've owned many. Currently own LG CX, Samsung QLED frame from 2020 and Sony x950h. Obviously I'm a little impartial to higher end names.

But I've gone through many iterations of the decision you are trying to make now. It is damn hard when you play in the "mid end" level because you either play the panel lottery and risk the QC issue for what may well be one of the best TVs for that price range or pay for that brand name insurance and get a lower spec TV. but since gaming is important, I'd say the U8g is a better bet. Do your thorough checks when you get it.

Again the mid end field makes the decision very difficult, as the gap between high and low end brands is very narrow. In the cheaper end, A Sony, Samsung or Lg will have absolute garbage TV for a higher cost compared to your TCL and Hisense. In the high end, your Hisense U9DG is kinda crap at 2000 dollars compared to the qn90 from Samsung and your Vizio H1 is a lot worst than your C1 and A9 Oled TVs

nope.

"We constantly compare Amazon's prices to our competitors' prices to make sure that our prices are as low or lower than all relevant competitors. As a result, we don't offer price matching."

I gave it a try and the suggested to let them know about the lower price on the product page, so I did. (In the feedback section, bottom of page.) SO we'll see...
