Better off with this or some Laddas? Sounds like the charger isn't much value.

These rechargeable batteries sold through Costco are poor quality. Ending up recharging and loosing charge that I am better of buying regular batteries. Ending up costing more factoring in electricity bill. I also found out that these rechargeable batteries may damage products. These batteries are not yet there.
Factoring in your electricity bill? You can charge 8 batteries 5 times for a penny in electricity. How did you do that math?

I'd think there is reason for knocking down nearly half off from already low Costco price. Either this was not selling well or too many returns Costco wanted to delete from its inventory. Unless one is Costco's insider directly involved in marketing with this specific item, it's all conjecture, but price is damn too low to bypass.

I did not believe Energizer ever intended to make/market viable rechargeable NiMH battery that is competing against it's core business in alkaline batteries, unlike Matsushita who never had substantial marketing share nor technology in conventional alkaline space, thus have nothing to compromise by introducing usable NiMH, although I believe it was Matsushita who actually invented this dry-cell business during WW2 that has revolutionized the consumer electronics for nearly 100 years . Perhaps, Energizer see no more profit in this outdated and obsolete 1.5V core dry-cell business, and join the Lithium hypes, and thus the quick sale to cleanup all old tech batteries alltogether.

We'll tell if this buy was a good investment five+ years later, or you've experienced unworthy item already not to bite a bait which is good thing to do.

Picked up two. Great price! Paid nearly the same price for 4xAA and 4xAAA LADDA batteries without a charger. The batteries are labeled made in Japan and are closer to the size/fit of the Eneloop batteries. Which might be important to some people that have devices with smaller tolerances. LADDA batteries are snug in some of my devices, just enough to matter.

For reference I have these three. Use them in flashlights during walks. Really, I don't know if there is a meaningful difference between them all, especially for my use case. What I have read is that regular Eneloop have a slower natural discharge rate, so they will last longer for some devices… like a temperature monitor. Otherwise for other things, seems like a Japanese manufactured rechargeable battery is good enough!

Nowhere close. Most Energizer rechargeables are now made in China with interior battery tech. They used to sell some that were made by eneloop years ago, but not anymore. It's eneloop or bust for me. If you have an Ikea nearby, some of their ladda batteries are the same as eneloops. Gotta make sure they're the made in Japan ones, as they also sell some made in China ones that aren't as good.

Just as hot as eneloop charger, mine is made by Futjisu who I believe owns eneloop thing. Old Sango charger never get hot, but takes forever to charge, well more than 5 hours.

If you camp, this slow charge, sometimes takes 10 hours can be painful as snakes, especially those with high venum will not wait for you. It's critical that you have reliable lighting, unless you're one of those city dweller who pays money to camp, or one of those types whining not having an air conditioner.

My eneloop charger doesn't cause any heat but the energizer one really does. Almost to the point where it feels like I'm being burnt when I remove the batteries.

This energizer charger is a "1 Hr charger" so I'd expect it gets much hotter than a slower charger

Most definitely. Eneloops seem to Last at least a few recharge cycles.. Tried these energizer "rechargeables" in pairs and a few sets lasted only 3-4 uses.. Even the recondition mode on my fancy charger can't make them worth a damn 😓
