The batteries run out every couple of months on this (check reviews). It's works well other than this. Battery drain appears to be driven by a very inefficient wifi radio that keeps connecting and disconnecting despite a very strong signal.
Does this version solve some of the previous issues?
- Disconnects from Connect often even when it' within 2 to 3 ft of each other
- Takes forever for app to connect while approaching door
- Takes sometimes up to 5 minutes for geo location to trigger unlocking
- Tapping the "unlock" or "lock" color often results in a phantom click that requires you to have to do it a second time.
- Might be isolated to me but some of my guests can no longer use their august app on their iPhones.
- App appears to rarely get updated or improved
- Sometimes the no jam feature does not work requiring me to have to re-calibrate the device so my daughter doesn't destroy the door casing.
- Cannot get remote to unlocking to work reliably to let people in
- Often difficult to get connect to respond to setting changes sometimes
- Wifi to Bluetooth swapping is slow
The only thing i can rely on is the scheduling works like a charm and the auto-lock helps keep the door locked as people come and go so I never have to think about it.
I have a very blanketed WiFi area for the device and it shows a strong connection in the signal readings. It's been like this since day one. 0 issues have ever been fixed. I've seen others report some of these and nothing has ever been done to fix anything.
I don't think I can take a chance on this deal given the endless hassle this lock has given me. I'd suggest to others to steer clear for something else that is more reliable.
Are the batteries you're buying made out of diamonds? Because I buy a 12pack on Amazon and it's about 22.00. I've never heard of 10.00 a pair in my life.

A few months seems accurate to me considering the size of the batteries.
I had Schlage smart locks on two of my doors and those took 4 AA batteries and would last about a year. Due to me getting custom made iron/glass doors I wanted a smart lock less bulky, so I went with these.
Now, these August lock batteries last about 3 months, with only 2 batteries HALF the size of a AA. So, that seems pretty good if you ask me.
Want something less elegant looking and less discrete that has a longer lasting battery time? Buy a Schlage encode. Those will last about a year.
I have the third gen and it's horrible. Mine barely lasted more than 4 weeks. I am biting the bullet and getting another brand
My batteries on the 3rd gen last about 8 to 10 months.
I don't have any issues with disconnect and failed unlocks. I really like my August lock and if I could change anything would be just the size and this 4th gen is smaller but I don't want to replace one that is working so well yet.

This is my experience as well, except the geo unlock/lock stopped working after like a month. It's a pretty annoying lock tbh and I reverted to a standard number pad and threw the august on one of my back doors that rarely gets used.

Wish the only problems we had were just batteries, too many to list(note this is based on several previous generations, they ended up replacing different components multiple times). I will say customer service was patient, although everything took a long time on the phone since you had to go through their SOP for troubleshooting each time. The last time it failed it was a hardware failure (previous were software/wifi) so I replaced it with a different brand - so many hours on the phone checking wifi signals and upgrading firmware. Darn good thing we had a key backup.
One more caution, the keypad (least the 2 we had) is not waterproof. Decided to hack the replaced components, circuit board on the keyboard was corroded, apparently water can get in through the keypad case (suspect driving rain since there is no covering/awning where it was placed).

This works great. However, keypad does not last even when it's not in direct sun/slightly protected from rain. Mine appears to be rusted out. The lock itself and app work great though.

You are correct. It eats through batteries at an unacceptable speed. I still love having it but I have to change batteries all the time.
A lot of haters… August lock has been AMAZING for me and my family. VERY consistent. VERY reliable, original set of batteries lasted me well over a year. I don't use the auto lock or any schedules because I think that's stupid, but to each their own. Being 2 floors away from my entrance this has saved me countless trips to let people in, and I've never had a problem getting this locked or unlocked remotely when I had something pop up. I have 2nd gen, maybe 3rd, not sure off top.
Had the last generation; one of the worst tech products I ever owned. The lock would randomly decide it was jammed at least once a week. It worked again after taking the batteries out and putting them back in, so it was a device issue not an installation issue. A lock has 2 jobs: to open and close, and it couldn't do those half the time. So I will run away from August.
My batteries on the 3rd gen last about 8 to 10 months.
I don't have any issues with disconnect and failed unlocks. I really like my August lock and if I could change anything would be just the size and this 4th gen is smaller but I don't want to replace one that is working so well yet.
I got the 3rd gen with the wifi bridge last black Friday and haven't had to replace the batteries yet.
It's worked flawlessly for me for the last 12 months.
I have the door auto lock after a few minutes and that never failed.
Remote unlock works every time.
I was able to follow an old guide to reverse engineer the API. I am now able to unlock my August lock from my Mi Band 6 from anywhere in the world as long as my cellphone has an internet or cell connection.

I agree. We've had the 3rd gen just over a year. It gets used probably 25 times a day and the AA batteries last about 10 months. We love it and have no plans on upgrading. "if it ain't broke, why replace it".

Get lockly
I have had both
Wouldn't use august if you gave it to me for free

A few items to remember. If you door doesn't perfectly sit flush you cannot use the auto loc and unlock feature
If you have a door that will be locked and unlocked manually these will not last long
My children also had a hard time in getting out of the house which can present a fire hazard.
