You’ll want multiple drives if you’re planning on using raid. If one drive fails you’ll still be ok.

Depends on your goals and data usage. In general though if you're doing NAS you probably have multiple bays and so why not use that to a better potential. If you want some resilience to your system you could do a RAID 1 with two 4TBs or why not two 8TBs? In that case you'd have 4TB and 8TB respectively. If you have a second NAS you could mirror those NASs then you might want to do a RAID 0, so with two 4TBs you'd have about 8 TB, with two 8TBs you'd have about 16TBs.

Don't forget you'll want to backup important data. Build in a resilient, robust system, with some redundancy and backups though. Don't just put all your eggs in one basket and put it all on one NAS either RAID 0 or 1.

Yes. I have two older 8 TB WD Reds (CMRs -- before they switched to the Red Plus designation -- that I shucked from a WD My Book Duo), set up in RAID with an Asus Strix mobo, running flawlessly as a D drive. I use them for less intensive storage -- documents, photographs, backups from C drive programs, etc, with the C drive, an SSD, handling more intensive tasks -- applications, games, etc. Unlike the drives from this deal -- which are excellent -- my older ones are 128 MB cache and 5,400 RPM. It is a tempting upgrade, if only any Best Buy within 250 miles of me had them.

Yes cmr
I've seen it at 100, but definitely not 8TB. This is a steal. I just bought a Samsung SSD T5 for 225 so, this is a great steal

How were you able to apply the recycle coupon online?
Sorry I meant, I read online someone used a coupon to order multiple drives in one transaction. You have to use the coupon in STORE.

I saw someone online use 1 coupon to buy multiple new drives....

...I got two coupons. Key is to be nice to the agent!!!
It is a highly YMMV thing. In the BestBuy near me, after The rep generated the coupon, he needs the manager to ok on the order system to apply the coupon. So one has to go through two hoops to get it done and any one of them might say no to trade more than one drive. On The other hand, I suppose if both didn't care to read the fine print, one might get away with one coupon for multiple drives.

If anybody is still looking, I was able to call Best Buy customer service and have them order me two of them to delivery. The BB app and website both show "not available in your area" so I thought I was out of luck. Now I'm trying to decide if I should keep them or use the 14tb easystores that I bought as a backup plan? Anybody have any thoughts? Thanks.

Which setup is better for NAS? One 8TB or Two 4TB?
If your enclosure supports 8tb the single drive solution will leave you with a clearer upgrade path

Wow im surprised how well these prices have held up. I picked the WD Easystore back in July 2017 for $160. Kinda shocking these haven't gone down in value.

Just bought 4 of these from Newegg and 2 ended up being DOA. You may be paying a bit more but may get better luck.

Called CS and was polite to the rep. Got them to deliver one to me despite it being OOS online. YMMV but I'm happy I got in on the deal late Smilie
