These work if you plan to use it to play PS4 games on PS5, or to store PS5 games as backup, so you don't have to redownload it in the future.

If you want to use it to play PS5 games, it doesn't work.

Flash drives are nowhere near the speed capability of the solid state drives so they’re better suited for lots of data transfer back and forth. However, the data leak inherent in them would cause data corruption over time without power. Recommendations on SSDs is to power up annually with replacement within a decade.

For archiving purposes, the nonvolatile nature of flash drives and flash cards would allow them to last longer (Most estimates I’ve seen say about 10 years).

Spinning external disks (magnetic memory) are a sweet spot for archiving as they are cheap for the size. The data is safe as long as long as they don’t come near strong electromagnets or electrical shorting. Their only pitfall is that the motor that spins the disk and the read head movement are moving parts that could break down with age/use. But they should last longer than a decade with care.

Wow, the LaCie has some bad reviews. Scary. Anyone know which of these may be good for Tesla Sentry/dashcam?

These are very good devices. No noise, of course. Extremely fast write speed over USB C (over 350 MBps). Only downside is that it comes with only a USB C-to-C cable, no C-to-A. Also no indicator lights.

Recommend apple airtag. Device is easily misplaced in the house because it is so small.

How do these compare to a flash disk of similar capacities for off-site backups of home use data?

Thank you, I got the 1tb ssd, and the 15$ credit from the Apple promotion applied to the order since it's shipped and sold by Amazon (in case someone else wanted to use those credits)
