That's pretty good has an 8ah + free tool, didn't see that at first glance. OP is semi slick, light not worth much, like this kit $180-190 to be slick

Exactly... I got in on that deal and quickly sold the impact and charger for $130.So I ended up with the hammer drill, 7 1/4 circular, 2ah and 8ah for $169. I thought that was slick. The Power Detect feature on these two tools when using the 8ah battery is impressive. Too bad the kit seems out of stock.

Why do all these packages include a hammer drill rather than a regular drill/driver? How many people out there are really needing a hammer drill?

Not sure if this is a serious question. Drilling holes in masonry, bricks, stone, etc is where the hammer drill shines. Cuts time significantly and with less effort. And a hammer drill can still be used as a drill/driver as well. I dont see how this isnt an added benefit for people.

I feel like the hammer drill may be overkill for the small projects I do. Would this be overpowered for the tasks better suited to a regular drill/driver? Just wondering if I should pull the trigger on this combo. This would be a replacement for the drill/driver that I currently have.

It is a little bit overkill but can do any job you need a drill for. I keep the hammerdrill as it's one less tool I need as it can do both jobs. Personally I find I just use my impact driver for everything including drilling.

XR is the more powerful with more torque and RPM. XR also weighs a tiny bit less and uses a little less battery power. With that said, Atomic is a good option as well if you don't plan on using it for major construction. There's a few YouTube videos that compare them. Personally I went with this XR 3 pack after looking into all the options. The XR 2 pack with drill/driver costs more and only has two 2ah batteries. This comes with a 4ah battery and the hammer drill/impact can still be used for drilling.

It was a serious question. If I never have a need to drill bricks, stone, etc. and have only used my current drill for wood, is there a disadvantage to only having a hammer drill? My regular drill is mainly used to drill pilot holes, mix paint, etc. I also mostly use my impact for everything else.

You are correct to question this and your current use of drills / drivers is the most common use, IMO. I do a lot of projects around the home and have only used a hammer drill once to drill into a cement floor to secure a carpet strip separating the carpeted side of a room from a laminate flooring side of the room. I don't anticipate having to use one again but if I do, I'll probably pick up a cheapie from Harbor Freight for ~$20.

A hammer drill will be inappropriate for most other applications besides drilling into cement, concrete, stone, etc. due to its percussive nature.
