I have picked up the 5.0 amp black versions on Amazon (different name on them and side slot) for under $100, you just have to modify the case with a table saw but it was super easy to do and saved a sh*t load of $$$ doing it and getting a 5 amp battery that Greenworks manufactured anyway!

I've always heard that third party batteries work great at first but within a few months they loose about half their capacity. What has your experience been?

I think he's talking about modifying another OEM battery from like Snapper(Brigg's and Stratton) so it will fit. There's several 60V batteries from high-quality OEM manufacturers that would power 60V greenworks tools but they make the side-rails and outer dimensions slightly different so they're not interchangeable....unless you modify that plastic case with a table-saw or something.
You're talking about sketchy batteries from 3rd parties which, yeah, you take a gamble on....

Hi, These are not 3rd Party batteries at all, they are manufactured by GREENWORKS!!! How do I know, well right on the battery the customer service # is the same as the greenworks #. Greenworks makes them but puts them under the "POWER WORKS" brand. Inside they are identical and use the same C cells. They come out of the same Chinese factory and it also has the same greenworks brand warranty! How are they? they are great ! I was using them the other day on my leaf blower and under turbo mode the obviously last twice as long as my 2.5 batts do. Turbo mode sucks up the batt power very quickly but has much more power. I have (2) 5.0 amp powerworks batts and you just wait for them to drop to $100 on sale at amazon and most people have some sort of amex points offer or discover points offer, I was able to pick them up "NEW" for $70 each. They were just $100
for the 5.0 amps last week for black Friday, etc. Also, you will find from time to time returned ones, for less, but I stayed clear of those... What green works wants you to do is spend a ridiculous
$200 on there branded "greenworks" battery at a HUGE profit MArgin! While they regularly sell the powerworks version for $100, so they make one "slot" in a slightly diff spot so it won't fit your charger or tool but the casing is plenty thick so in the factory the slot can be put where they want it, so you can do it w/ a table saw. ALso, you can get any 60v casing out there, from a dead battery, etc, and take the internals out of the powerworks batt and just slide it right inside the greenworks case, it is EXACTLY the same battery harness they use for both brands and it is interchangeable to put inside either cases! I had taken originally taken out the 5.0 amp batt and put it inside my greenworks 2.5 housing because I did not know how to do the case modification at that time, but I wanted to use the 5 amps. It fit 100% and no issues at all... so you can save a ton of $$$ buying the powerworks brand!
Also, YES< stay far away from the Generic Knockoff ones being sold as they are pretty much crap and they use really inferior internal C cells in the batteries!
