Or if you're letting the bait sink first like jigs or high low rigs where there's a pause. But again, mine has never prematurely tripped on me that I can remember. I lose more lures from snagged wind knots on the rod than anything else.
Thanks for the link, makes me wonder if there's a way to improve or perhaps tighten the feature instead of removing it completely.
/Saltist MQ and leaned toward Daiwa. Too many great reviews to pass up. Also if this is for saltwater, look into a Shimano Saragosa!
But that reel just takes it and keeps giving me fish.
Spinfisher deals are few and far between. I can't decide if I should bite on this for my 2nd rig.

Never ran a test here in the windy Texas flats, but I may do that over the winter just to see...

Just note at the 6500 size it's a manual bail..the auto bail trip as you turn the reel is only for 5500 and under.
I thought the manual bail wouldn't be a big deal so I originally got a 6500. However, since I've mainly fished fresh water with smaller reels for most my life, I ended up returning the 6500 because I just couldn't get used to the manual bail. I got the 5500 and am very happy. I don't think it ever accidentally tripped. The 4500 should still be a decent size and power.
Using the auto flip bail you leave yourself open to wind knots if you fish with braid.
Cast, put the line back on the roller tight, and flip the bail and you will never have a wind knot.
It's second nature at this point.
But on a side note, the manual bail was how I got my "broken" eBay slammer 7500 for $100. Listing said the bail didn't work, but they just didn't realize it was supposed to operate that way. Brand new reel.

If you find a deal on the BG, don't pass on it if you need another reel.
I use this as my surf rod reel and I love it. Great deal!
