8GB RAM not being upgradable is a deal breaker.
Good deal but this looks so dated next to the 16' that replaced this model.
Costco has that for $400 off. I think it's oos online but local stores may still have it. I got 1 for my son locally and he loves it. 17" at 2.8 lbs is pretty awesome.

For those asking about RAM upgrade, my understanding is that LPDDR4X is *always* soldered. Laptops having RAM slots will have DDR4. Apparently the low power version of RAM (LP in LPDDR4X stands for low power) is always soldered. I don't believe you can mix and match between DDR4 and LPDDR4X.

Is the RAM upgradeable?
Everything on upgradeability. At least for 17 inch models, which are a real sweet spot for LG Gram:

2020 LG Grams based on i7-1065G7 had 2x8gb or 2x16gb Samsung DDR4-3200 memory.
I took one out and replaced with 32gb, getting 40gb overall. Works fast with no issues.

They also had 2 SSD slots, and they took Samsung 2TB 980 pro and 2tb 870 evo no issues.
Still unbelievably light and fits all hotel deposit safe boxes (sometimes you need to enter diagonally though but it fits)
Productivity monster if you need to see a lot of visuals on the screen.
Sound is bad, but I am either on headphones, or use a small portable sound bar.
No other issues whatsoever. Never crashed on me in a year, and I am guilty of keeping 300+ browser windows open.
Even on 2020 the battery easily runs me through a 10 hour work day on the go non stop with heavy use.

2021 LG Grams i7-1165G7 and like all use low voltage soldered LPDDRX-4267 which is slower in comparison and not upgradeable. They also lost on screen brightness a bit.

In exchange, they got a little faster CPU and graphics, PCI4 vs PCI3 and one extra thunderbolt, losing one USB-A

Overall, 10th gen may provide a better value for someone who wants to maximize memory and likes brighter screen. Both are critical to me, so I am not upgrading until at least Adler Lake.

Memory 8 GB
Memory Type LP DDR4

So does it means it is soldered?

I've had a 10th gen based 17" Gram for about 3/4 of year. Excellent unit. Having a 17" in a featherweight package has revolutionized my mobile working. Bonus for being able to limit battery charge to 80%. Not sure if many other laptops can do that, but this is a first for me.

I returned the Costco 17. LG did not have a complete list of the drivers so I could clean install (It was impressive how much McAfee was imbedded into the unit I received)

Many lg grams have an 8gb soldered ram with an extra empty slot for ddr4, which will take a 32gb stick giving you 40gb total. I am not sure if they have changed the type of soldered ram this year but some are missing the extra slot for ram unfortunately. We should all submit complaints to lg as this feature is all about them making more money, not helpful to the user at all.

So you sacrifice dual channel, for 8GB more (useless) Ram? Doesnt sound good to me.

That's great, except 8+32 is not dual channel.

40gb single channel is better then 8gb dual channel...

Yeah if you want to have 1000 chrome tabs opened. 16gb dual channel is going to be better than 40gb single for most users. Also going to be better for the integrated graphics.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that 8+32 is 16GB dual channel + 24GB single channel. Way better than just 16GB dual channel.
And dual channel mostly helps with Ryzen and GPU. For Intel non gaming machine (like LG Gram) the performance difference between dual and singe is not dramatic, especially when the fist 16GB memory is still dual channel.

So, the statement that 16GB dual channel is better than 16GB dual channel+ 24GB single channel (8+32 sticks) for most users does not make sense.

I find the extra memory helpful when tabs go beserk, mainly facebook, gmail, voice, stocktwits... A 32gb module is pretty cheap and installing yourself costs nothing so might as well go big. I have found 16gb filling up with my usage where as 40gb does not. I dont notice any lag time so I am not sure what dual channel would do for me. Of course, like any upgrade, if you can get dual channel for not too much extra $$$, might as well.
