Thanks - it was frickin Lyme disease. He was such a trooper we had no idea until it was too late (and we forced our vet who is no longer our vet) to do the test.

We also learned about the Lyme vaccine that's available for pets too late. If you have a doggo make sure you get it. I'm in Northeast Ohio and was told by that same vet there wasn't much to worry about in our area. Total BS.

Thanks and my condolences. It's crazy how much of a void they leave behind. He would always great us first thing in the morning, often waking us up by throwing his body on the floor and against the bed like a small earthquake. He used to make me smile coming up the steps to our bedroom, sounded like freight train. I don't get to smile in the mornings anymore.

I feel for you. We lost our pet over Thanksgiving break on my birthday, he was 15. In 2020 I lost my 17 year old boy. It has left a hole in my heart but I was able to say goodbye. My 15 year old would follow my wife around like a shadow, so sweet, loving, and she has been devastated. We adopted through a humane society yesterday and the girl we brought home has been so grateful, so zoomie, so sweet, my wife is finally acting like herself again. These animals give us so much love and all they want is some security and love in return. We really get the better end of that deal. So you aren't alone, we feel your pain and hopefully you'll come to a place where loving another dog would have been what your dog wanted. To give another dog a good forever home, I think that's what my boys would want me to do, the same thing I did for them. I'm sure you will think something similar when you're ready.

We lost Duncan on my son's birthday - now the best and worst day of my life. I'm glad you and your boys had such a long time together though it's never really enough is it? We said goodbye at home, under the tree he would always sit. It was a dreary day in early October, but when it was time the sun came out as we held him through his transition.


It's just so quiet now, the house doesn't sing like it used to.
