Anyone use this to run a plex server? Thinking of buying this and a external usb c hard drive. Smaller and less power than a synology

Just Gig Ethernet it looks like. For 10GB, you can customize it on Apple's site for an extra $100. Worth it for future proofing in my opinion, but makes me want to pass on this deal (unfortunately).

You don't need much power for a Plex server, this has compromised ports, is completely unupgradable/serviceable, and is overpriced to power a Plex server

You'll hear people saying "8GB Ram is not enough" "New Mac mini will be available next year very soon"
If you need it now, it's a good machine, capable of normal Microsoft suites works. Also, Costco have this price pretty often if you want a better return and coverage.

when 10GB ethernet comes out and you need it, by then it is better to switch a computer than sticking to this.

I've found you can do more with 8gb on the M1's than you can with 16/32 on i7's. It's not all apples to apples (pun intended).
