Among the other m12 deals today at home depot is the circular saw combo with 2 6ah batteries. I consider the value of the batteries to be about $60 each conservatively so that brings the tool value in this combo to about $70. Obviously if you don't need the batteries its not as good of a deal.

If you could only have one circular saw, get this one or a bigger m18?

I own this, I primarily cut 3/4 ply and 1x material. Works mostly fine. However when I compare it to the corded full size circular saw, well there's no comparison in terms of power and ease

I would say it depends if you have a corded one. I have a full size corded saw so I figure this will cover 90% of what I do, and the other stuff will be for the corded

All I can say is: Once I got the m12 equivalents of the larger tools, I don't use the larger tools anymore. It was not a matter of the percentages of times I used the larger tools, but rather, I simply don't use them anymore.

I would get the bigger saw. The M12 really bogs down cutting anything bigger than a 2x4 imo.

All the reviews say this is fine for 2x4 and ripping up to 3/4" plywood, and osb. Anything beyond that people recommend stepping up to the dewalt flexvolt 60, m18 fuel, or one of the 36v Japanese tools. This is apparently 95% of most other 6 1/2" or 7 1/4" cordless circular saws, apart from depth of cut.

The M18 version will always win in the "just have one" comparison

This is one of m12 Fuel tools that I find lacking. It is an 9 year old model I think and is due for an upgrade. That being said if I go slowly and don't force the tool it gets the job done for a diy homeowner. If I don't use a carpenter square on a 2 by 4 I can get it to cut out pretty easily by not going perfectly perpendicular. Dewalts new 12v circular saw beats this hands down. Fingers crossed a Gen2 is in the works.

As a side note harbor freight has a $5- 5 1/2 30 tooth blade that ain't half bad. Incase you don't feel like spending $15-20 on a diablo or milwaukee blade.

Definitely a good deal for just the batteries even... nice to have a saw thrown in! That being said, I have never used the m12 version, but I've Definitely had the m18 saw bog down on my if there wasn't a full charge on the battery. Very tempting deal!

If remember correctly it comes with a framing blade…

Sorry but $189 would in no way be a good deal for "just the batteries." Even with the saw included and 2 6ah batteries, this is a cool to lukewarm deal at best. Once you have used this m12 saw, you will know the truth, and that is it sucks.
