As pointed out by others with most delineations in Apple products it is almost always about “flex” and feel. While the technical capabilities are exactly the same, the stainless steel case is more durable against regular wear and the glass is much more scratch resistant. Apple went further this year by removing the classic clean silver finish from the base model and making it only available in stainless steel varieties. A lot of the target users for the premium variants are more fashion/feel focused and refuse to apply cases or screen protectors. All the variants become e-Waste at the same time as the internals are identical.

I had the Series 0 and Series 4 and the aluminum scratched up considerably. The screens did not last either.

I sold my Series 4 and got the Stainless Series 4 on clearance when the Series 5 came out for around $300. The best time IMO to get the stainless model is when they're on clearance as they go pretty cheap. Otherwise the value seems to plummet pretty fast for how much you're paying.

The build quality is also better with a heavier feeling. The aluminum model feels like a feather in comparison.

Has a sapphire screen and the the stainless looks better than silver aluminum with my handmade Alligator skin band.

Snagged a Stainless Steel Series 4 from Best Buy 2 years ago for $400. Sapphire screen doesn't have a SINGLE scratch on it. Literally it's perfect. I've smacked this thing against walls, door handles, brick, car suspension while working on the car... You name it. Every few months I'll polish the stainless steel case and it looks like new. I was prepared to spend the same money (or more) on a series 5 that year (aluminum body, and regular crappy screen). Zero regrets buying the 1 year older S4. Has been amazing.

Is that worth $750?? That depends on the person. Was it worth $400 to me?? In hindsight I can say ABSOLUTELY. To the point now that I'll only consider the stainless steel version. Scratches drive me nuts, and the sapphire crystal screen has been amazing. It would drive me insane to see a scratched up screen EVERY time I looked at it.

$700 with taxes in some places. We are slowly stepping towards $1,000 price tag with inflation.

I see. It's still sounds like Apple creating this perception of "premium" category. They could have easily sold regular watches in a stainless steel frame. It's not that there is a shortage or manufacturing difficulties with stainless steel.

The stainless have always been pricey tho. Now let's talk about the Hermes edition. Lol.

Great price. Bought the 41mm last month for $719 and would've upgraded to 45mm if this was the price then lol.

Yup. Great price. Picked one up. Gotta sell my SS AW4 now. 😂. This is better than the friends and family if you know anyone at apple.
