However the prongs on the Nano can't fold so I believe this could end up taking less space.

On the power, if you're not going to use MagSafe it probably doesn't matter much. Even then, it may not.
Apple's decision to leave them out was good for 3rd party charger business.

The factories will make it to the specification and the quality that the buyer agrees to pay for. Better, or worse, as agreed.
That's why there are hundreds of people doing teardown blogs and videos. Open these things up and they look very different. Companies will knock off the look and the physical design, but inside they are different.
