What existed before the Universe was created? Where does self-worth come from? Do the ends always justify the means?

The Philosophy Book answers the most profound questions we all have. It is your visual guide to the fundamental nature of existence, society, and how we think.

Discover what it means to be free, whether science can predict the future, or how language shapes our thoughts. Learn about the world's greatest philosophers, from Plato and Confucius to modern thinkers such as Chomsky and Derrida and follow charts and timelines that graphically show the progression of ideas and logic.

Written in plain English, with concise explanations of branches of philosophy such as metaphysics and ethics, it untangles complicated theories and makes sense of abstract concepts. It is an ideal reference whether you're a student or a general reader, with simple explanations of big ideas, including the four noble truths, the soul, class struggle, moral purpose, and good and evil.

If you're curious about the deeper questions in life, The Philosophy Book is both an invaluable reference and illuminating read.

Philosophy instructor here... This is one of my favorite books to recommend to people who have little exposure to philosophy. And for those whom I have recommend it to, they seemed to really enjoy it. Is it totally comprehensive? No, but finding a comprehensive non-internet source of philosophy is impossible. It does a really great job of presenting many of the greatest philosophical ideas in an accessible and non-intimidating kind of way. That said, this isn't a book for school kids, as someone else mentioned. Advanced high schoolers or very advanced middle schoolers might find it interesting, but many of the concepts will still be difficult to grasp (Hegel, Heidegger etc). I think it works best as a book that an intellectually curious person can skim through, find ideas and thinkers that intrigue them, and then go off to other places (Wikipedia or the source material) to dig deeper.

Thanks. Good reviews as a very good general overview of the major areas of philosophy. Going to the product page made me realize I had promo credits that were going to expire next week, so this was a nice pickup.

It's a real shame they can't make these ebooks look as good as the print copies. The value is significantly lower than the print book.

I have the physical copy of the Physics one and it's excellent. Got me into exploring more scientific topics, to me this series is well worth a pickup.

Thanks OP, grabbing Philosophy too.
