The only deal I remember seeing on a premium projector this season!!

$100 off is not really slick, given that it has been around $2500-$2600 previously. Having said that, I have seen no deals on this thing in about a year. So this is probably the best you can do right now. Although, tax does kind of kill it. You can get around the same price (since it is tax free) at Parker Gwen.

FYI, this was not excluded from the 10% coupons Best Buy targets now and again. I got one there for $2,700. Very YMMV, but may be useful info to someone. It was a great upgrade over my old 8500UB.

The projector is versatile. The recommendation is to use an ALR screen when using in a non-light controlled room.

Thanks for all the comments. While some see this as not slick enough and even down voted, Amazon listing sold 16 projectors in the last 12 hours and now they are OOS.The price also went back to $2999.

I am glad that this may have helped a few who has been desperately looking to buy one this season.

I am new to this forum and I don't understand the down voting culture here. In the other forums the posts get down voted only when the supplied information is wrong or irrelevant. Here folks just down vote, just because they feel the deal is not good enough "to them" even though the provided deal is legit.
Anyhow, just an observation 🙂 will blend in soon.

Can this fill 150" screen? I'm sure I've overlooked it, but I'm seeing the max in any specs.

This calculator lets us modify different parameters to our needs based on our room dimensions (which is critical for your ask) to see if a projector can fit our use case.

Thanks. My room is light controlled - no windows or doors. But it's a combo HT / bar, so sometimes I'm going to want to watch with some fan lighting on in the background. Not daylight, but medium light basement. Think I should go with something brighter?

I would still think 5050ub should cut it for you. But in an effort to not misguide you, I would recommend you posting in AV speciality forums like https://www.avforums.com/forums/p...essors.43/ for an expert opinion.

The 5050UB is a fantastic projector, but I think it's insane to spend this much on a 4 year old non-laser PJ in almost 2022. A slew of great PJs have been announced, including Epsons new models which will all likely trounce this thing outside or somewhat specific features like lens zoom memory.

I agree. It's a solid projector, but the tech is dated. My 8 year old 5030ub looks to have just died and I'm trying to figure out what to replace it with. If the 5050 were under $2,000 I'd probably get that, but at $3,000 it's too much to spend for something that's been around for so long. That said, there aren't a ton of options...particularly if you want a native 4k projector with good contrast ratio and aren't looking to spend a ton.

This has been my thought too, but what's out there now? Or over the short term? Seems like if you need something in the next 2-4 months what's going to change?

My room is kinda like yours with a bar like area in the back. I have the 5040UB. The room had light filtering curtains and the picture was ok but once I changed them out to room darkening curtains it made a huge difference.

I just got the Bomaker Polaris (which is a white label Hisense L9G) for $1750 with a 4 year extended warranty. It is the best looking PJ I've ever seen and works flawlessly. Contrast is quite good, but colors and sharpness are absolutely incredible. I've owned 6 PJs over the last 15 years, including the LG HU810p (which was also very good, but had a ton of bugs so I returned it)
