Only Lutron supports no-neutral for a smart switch. The way they did it is patented so others can't copy it, although it's not a great method anyways. Effectively you can't ever turn "off" that type of switch. It keeps a low current running to the bulb/fan at all times, which means if you have a sensitive dimmer type bulb it can buzz or never turn off completely.

Kasa smart switches are OK... they use a neutral of course but they also use an extra wire that you have to connect with a wire nut as opposed to either a push in or direct connection to the switch type. This works decently in most situations but if you have something like a 4 gang outlet and try to install 4 of them you run into space issues.

You put it in a floor lamp or chandelier that has one socket...or you buy a second one at regular price if you need more than one.

Thanks OP. I have a ton of Hue lights and many Kasa products already. I've been wanting to try an amber filament but really had no use case, especially at the Hue prices. For $9, I get to play around with this

Also, I highly recommend the Kasa lineup.

Does Kasa have switches that support no neutral? I know Lutron does but I've really enjoyed the Kasa products I do have. Plus they are way more affordable...

Thanks, I too really like the kasa products- have been using them for years now without any issues.
I was able to combine this coupon with the ongoing $10 off deal for using Amazon pickup location. Even with the coupon applicable on single bulb, adding two brings the total above 20$ allowing the pickup deal to applied. Final price for two this way is about 14.5$.

I love all Kasa lighting. The switches mostly just seem to work but beware of their Cameras. They do not have Multi Factor Auth or even send you an email that someone has logged into your account. Some perv could be watching your kids and you wouldn't even know.

I love all the kasa products I have except these. They are so yellow that they are unusable for me and my wife.

Only downside to Kasa for me is lack of HomeKit support. Other than that they've been pretty solid for me

Could be good for the light outside the shed. I'd only need to get a wifi connection occasionally to set a schedule.

Does anyone know if the settings survive when it loses power or wifi? So for example could I set it in a fixture near the wifi, then unscrew it and move it to another location that may not have wifi?

fyi if anyone has the same question:

I like the Kasa devices and I have a dozen or so (switch, dimmers, indoor and outdoor smartplugs, camera, etc). They are far more reliable than the Wemo ones.
