Weight capacity is 275lb.. can any fellow bigger boys confirm the bouyancy will support our mass or will I start listing like the Costa?
I have this one and my brother in law is 325. He floats just fine in it. no issues. It's a really great kayak.
It can't be done "cheap", but it can be done "cheaper". We own four kayaks, two of which are fishing kayaks (although most of my fishing is actually taking my daughter, so we're in the "non-fishing" tandem kayak more than the fishing ones!). For them, I've bought 4x$40 paddles, 4x $40 paddling life jackets, 2x $15 milk crates w/zip tied lid, 2x $15 anchors w/paracord and a diy pvc/pool float "buoy", a couple old mayo jars with holes poked in them for a bait bucket (shrimp mostly). I use fishing gear I already had, except I added a pair of fish grippers instead of the net I use from land. In all, other than the yaks themselves, I've spent only about $400. We use them on a local creek or our river in mild whitewater and take them camping where I fish, so we get a good bit of use out of the kayaks and the gear.

It's very stable. I'm 230 + gear and it's fine. Doesn't track the best but it is, imo, the best SOT fishing yak at this price point. I don't recommend big water but I've taken on lakes and rivers no problem.

So no ocean? I was thinking of taking this out on the sea to reach this island and camp.

If you find out, let me know. I have one fit out with diy stabilizer and bought it (few years ago for $120ish) mainly to do crabbing in the bay but I don't see a lot of people on these ones. Usually in ocean I see them using foot paddle yaks. I don't plan on doing anything too fancy but I haven't tested it out in the ocean myself

I agree; this would be difficult to cast a fly rod in. There are plenty of youtube videos that show you how to do it, but many of them don't show how to do it in a sit on top kayak like this one.

Do you need to register this like a vehicle? I don't want to be fined if I try taking it out on the water.

Depends on the state. In Oregon, you just need to buy an invasive species/waterway access permit since it's over 8'.

I have owned this kayak for 2 years. Pretty darn good. I upgraded mine with lots of fishing stuff. I am 200lbs, carry probably 20lbs of fishing gear on it, and have landed 30lb catfish with no problems. If you plan to have a kayak outing more than a couple of hours you will need to upgrade the seat somehow or else your back and butt will feel like death. There are many YouTube videos about it, I simpy use a thick cushion. If you want a casual kayak for a low cost this is a steal.

I'm 6"2' and gained 25 pounds. Up to 255 at moment Is there a problem using one of these for tall people? (probably not, safer to ask)

Also, if I wanted to use this in the ocean when the waves are weak, would I be ok if I got past the waves and paddled around behind the breaks (about 1/8 mile out)?

Can you fly fish from something like this or is it more of a spin casting thing?
You can but I wouldn't stand on this kayak.
