Well That might be for simple returns when you file using the states own online EZ file system. Simple returns often get different treatment . But I'm not sure that is true when you use third party software like TaxCut and have sold stocks (or effective this year have sold Crypto) . I file by paper but in the past my kids have filed returns in Mass and VT and had to pay $25 to e file . That was a couple of years ago but I would check to be sure.

I have always used TaxAct and have never used H&R or Credit Karma before. I don't to use TaxAct anymore as it has become expensive. Does anyone have any experience using both H&R and Credit Karma to judge which one is easier and better?

Investments usually aren't taxed until sold. Then you end up paying long/short term capital gains. You don't need premium to handle dividends. Every year, I import my tax statement from DA Davidson, it takes about 30 seconds and puts everything where it belongs on the forms. All of that is part of the standard income part of the interview.
