Simply not true. Instead of linking a generic tech site take, Google "Adobe Lightroom alternatives" and you will see Luminar tops most of those lists on photography-centric sites. It's quite a good product that one can actually buy as opposed to rent like Lightroom. Luminar just has a history of giving away their older flagships when they move to a new product. When they were on Luminar 4 getting ready to release Luminar AI, they gave away Luminar 3. Now they're on Luminar AI getting ready to release Luminar Neo, so they're giving away Luminar 4. And it's a great giveaway.

Not true. I actually paid for this app and I feel it was worth the money. Saves a lot of time compared to editing pictures in light room or photoshop, requires minimal knowledge of editing and doesn't have the steep learning curve of other apps.
I do agree that the app is slow and unstable. Windows version is unusable at time. Performs much better on M1 macs. For free, this is a must try.

I like the Luminar series of products as it is a time saver in comparison to other companion software found in the Adobe suite at a much better price.

You need a decent processor to run it (I use a i7 with 16 GB RAM in my setup). I like picking up their software at a good discount on Humble Bundle as it speeds up and simplifies my work flow.

I use it in conjunction with Corel's PaintShop Pro (a Adobe Photoshop replacement).

Luminar 4 is right now one version out of date but a good introduction to the software. Currently Luminar AI is the current version and soon to be two version out of date when Luminar Neo is released, (Feb '22) both of which have more capability than Luminar 4.

Free is always worth looking at, but long term, you will need to move to something else. I bought Luminar 3 and 4. If you are looking for something long-term, you could use Luminar 4 as a secondary tool and look for something else as a primary. The company's practices are not ethical. Luminar 4 was supposed to be their roadmap and they quickly dumped it and now Luminar AI is the future. They have done this move no less than 3 times.

Lots of broken promises. The last one that got me to jump was the promise of a DAM but never actually delivering on that promise. I have now settled on ACDSEE, Affinity, Topaz Noise, Sharpening tools. In the world of photo editing and management, sometimes one tool is not enough.

Free is good, but time costs money and I would suggest looking elsewhere to devote your time with. They are offering up a dead product in an attempt to get you to upgrade and who knows how long Luminar AI will be around before they decide to replace that with some other new business strategy. Go For the Free, don't be sucked into upgrading.

I've been using Photoshop for decades (yes, decades), but am turned off by Adobe's current business model, so the opportunity to try a competing product for free is welcome.

I don't know if this was answered in earlier replies but do they have camera profiles for editing RAW photos? For example, with Lightroom or CaptureOne I can change film simulations (I shoot with Fujifilm) after the fact.

I moved from LR some time back and went to C1 because I could buy it. I don't have any complaints with c1 but the workflow could be a bit better for me personally.

I thought is was a full program - I am not paying a subscription to this - Gimp 2.0 is what I use

Huge waste of time trying to activate this "free" software. Took forever to get an activation code and then the program said it wasn't valid. Yes, I copied and pasted as well as typed it in. If they can't get the simple things right I will not waste my time on this POS company
