You get the airlift hinge, upgraded gasket with locking mechanism and the control tower top. Some would actually say that the control tower top is a downgrade over the daisy wheel though.

You are right, if you can still find the Classic I for $399. But the fact that the Classic I are now for $700, the upgrade to Classic II is worth it for an additional $200.
Yea, I just feel that anyone that was interested in these grills would have jumped on the Classic I "steals". There is still a high chance that those deals return because many retailers still have stock of the classic I. Definitely worth waiting a bit to see what pops up before and after the Holidays, imo.
i bought the Classic I for $399 and let me tell you i love this thing!! originally had bought it for $449 but the other day it dropped to $399 called walmart to price adjust 😁 happy guy!! lol

Sorry I haven't researched if changing the hinge is possible. I would assume that it is. However, I can say that the lid isn't THAT heavy. You'd have to be either extremely short or weak to not be able to lift it.
