1. Turned the phone on without sim
---- Connect to WIFI --
2. Went to Settings, Connections
3. Select Network Unlock
4. Select Permanent Unlock
5. Done
6. Update to Android 11
7. Check with a non-TMO SIM to see if you can make and receive calls.
I think it's still a good phone for $250 but just know there are issues with it.

OnePlus suspended their Android 12 update to their early adopters after many complaints with bugs of the new OS Oppo style "ColorOS".

Super fast, nice OLED screen, great deal for the price generally. Very, very easy to unlock after connecting to wifi out of the box. Biggest issues for me so far:
1. This works with Cricket, including VoLTE, but it's not in their whitelist. Even though it's on AT&T's. So I'm not sure if this will continue to work after they do their big network switch away from 3g in February. But I'm planning on switching away from Cricket anyway for the whitelist among other reasons, so ultimately won't be a huge issue.
2. Curved screen feels nice in the hand but looks dumb and makes text that runs up to the edge of the display a little tough to read at times.
3. I miss the headphone jack, but unless I get a Pixel 5a I was going to need to live without one. And this is both cheaper and faster than the 5a.
4. The cameras are only ok. Even with a gcam port, this doesn't hold a candle to Pixels or iPhones when it comes to camera quality. That said, it's perfectly serviceable: the video actually looks pretty solid with good stabilization and the stills from the main sensor are passable when using gcam. Unfortunately the wide angle isn't usable with gcam (distortion from the lens isn't corrected) and isn't that great outside ideal lighting conditions with the built in app. And the macro is a complete joke that is absolutely garbage and unusable.
5. No wireless charging. But the fast charge does work as advertised and my last phone didn't have wireless charging either, so not a deal killer for me.
So definitely some minuses, but on the whole compared to other new phones this is the best deal you can get for the price. Guessing this will sell out pretty fast.
I got an AT&T locked iPhone 11 for $250 a few months ago, got it unlocked for use on T-Mobile and it runs circles around this device.
for $250, this thing has SD865 and 90hz screen for kick ass gaming AND emulation performance (especially using the new free AetherSX PS2 emulator)...the software is basically 90% native android (significantly less customized than samsung's UI)...screen is buttery smooth AMOLED...great battery life...and the tri-camera system is decent, what more can you ask for?
and if you bought the tmobile version like me, just go to settings-carrier options to unlock it immediately, no hassle required...
