Good deal but apparently the new paperwhite's orange shader and improved screen is a pretty big upgrade?

As someone who hunted around for a while for a Paperwhite and ended up buying the Kids 11th Gen (latest) for $120, this is a solid deal for anyone on a budget. Yes, the latest is better but this is more bang for the buck IMO.

Is the latest generation worth the $50 extra?

Is a good deal I have the new Paperwhite too the new paperweight has a flat display you will accidentally turn pages with it also the flat display hovers a bit over the ink so unless it's perfectly clean you can get some odd light refraction and goofiness with image clarity also contrast is not improved with the new one it looks exactly the same just point 8 of an inch bigger

That's really a personal decision. For me, I always prefer to have the latest and greatest. Also I expect the promo on the Kids version to end after the holidays and so a local resale (OfferUp, CL) of $100+ should be possible for the next year or two if I decide that Kindle isn't for me.

Just pointing out that The kids deal also came with a year of the subscription service and a cover which is $30 for the Amazon one although other cheaper options are available. Worth it for me even though I had been keeping an eye out for this type of deal prior to purchasing.

Appreciate your thoughts, but what's an "orange shader? Isn't this the finest resolution in DPI ever offered in the Paperwhite?

It's the color temperature of the screen, aka warmth. I have the new paperwhite, and when I read at night, I turn off all the lights and set the kindle to dark mode with warmth at max setting. I love it. It's my first paperwhite so I don't know whether or not the previous version has these features.

I have this model. Very comfortable to hold with one hand. I do tend to have the screen as close as you would a cellphone though and since the newest Kindle Paperwhite does have a bigger and better screen, just get the new one really. My Kindle still lasts for weeks without needing a charge so if it wasn't for that I would have upgraded to the new one, but for now I'll stick with 2018 model.
