Smart tech is better if you REALLY need to know its leaking. Many of us live in homes that're large enough to where we cant hear everything, especially these if its going off if we're on the other side of the house. I couldn't when I had a leak.
Smart tech is more expensive of course but you can know its happening even if you're not home. There's also shut off valves that can be controlled remotely too so if you're far far away, no worries.
Just something to think about.
By the way, when I got this and it was flooded, water ironically ended up getting on the inside and destroying it so it's not very waterproof.
Govee has a number of home automation products that work independently, but have added features if you connect them to your network. These water detectors, for example, will sound a loud alarm if they detect water.
But if you link them to one of Govee's wireless gateways, and connect that gateway to your Wi-Fi network, then in addition to sounding an alarm, they will also send a message to your phone. So you will know there's a leak, even if you're on the top floor or otherwise away from home.
Recently there have been deals on Govee detector bundles, both with and without a gateway. This bundle does not include a gateway.

I'm going to hold out for another Wi-Fi gateway bundle deal. This is a great price, they do work without that hub, but I'm not confident that I'd hear them shrieking in the basement with the door closed.

The app gives an alert on the phone, so hearing the siren from the basement might not be an absolute must. I have one in my basement by the sump pump, and another in the other corner by the water heater & furnace.
They tie into the mobile app if you have the gateway. The app lets you rename them so you know what area it is for and also show the last time they were set off. They work great and have helped me when dealing with water leaking a few times.
Seriously, the Watchdog brand (the one you see often that requires a 9v battery) is like $12.50 and that's without the battery, which is easily another few bucks.
Tempted to try this for the price
