Not bad, but it was half this price towards the end of the summer and could go down again between now and when you can actually seed a lawn.

Looks like quite a few different seed options are on sale at their Amazon store. The rapid seed is a good deal if you plan to seed in spring.

The 20lb bag is actually cheaper per lb. Does anyone know if this statistically could be more onsale by spring?

If I'm not mistaken, the second best time of year to aerate and seed your lawn is winter. Optimal time of year is fall. Early spring is ok. But late spring and summer are the two worst times to seed.

Watch the application rate. Scotts coats their seed, which they claim helps keep the seed moist, but what it also does is weigh the seed down. This means this bag has half of the seed of a equivalent non-coated bag. You can see that fact in the coverage area when you compare it to other brands. A 20lb bag of this is like a 10lb bag elsewhere.

I can't seem to find this weight for half this price. I see that I ordered the 3 lb version through Amazon for half this price around late summer which also reflects in the SD history for this item.

This is coated, so you are only getting 3 pounds of actual seed.

You are right. This is lowest for 7lb bag of this grass type. Also check your state's seed law. Northern states have longer expiry than southern states. I use plain Barenbrug RTF seed with preventative app of Disease Ex just before seeding to protect against damp soil diseases.

Wouldn't this be better for your southern lawn, OP? Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Dense Shade Mix for Tall Fescue Lawns, 7 lb. - Full Sun and Dense Shade - Grows With as Little as 3 Hours of Sunlight - Resists Heat and Drought, Insects and Disease https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AUMX...5PEMV0FK62

Edit: maybe not. Maps shows similar areas (with respect to northern/Southern California)

The benefit of the originally post heat resistant blue grass mix is that the blue grass variety in it has rhizomatic traits. What this means is that it will not only grow vertically but also off shoot sideways thereby filling in patches. This gives it self-healing characteristics and also fills in nicely. Heat resistant bluegrass is a relatively new thing on the market and I haven't seen much feedback on it just yet. If it works like it says then on paper it appears fantastic for transition zone folks.
