Here is how to do this successfully...

- Tell them you want to buy unlocked Samsung phone with a trade in
- Show them the page about the extra trade in (in store only value) when purchasing unlocked Samsung latest series smartphones
- Tell them they should do the trade in separate (by itself) from the purchase transaction
- After adding the trade in device info in the system, the lesser value will come up, but at the end on last screen, rep is able to add a promo code, he will add the code there and the extra trade in value will show up and be added (Promo is "SAMSUNG" supposedly, I was told). Rep should look up the code if he doesn't know it so it might take a little bit of time. Most reps don't even know about this deal so try to be nice while they try to get the deal for you.
- At the end, he will add that amount to a BB Gift Card
- Now, purchase the Unlocked phone of your choice (S21, S21 Ultra, Z Fold3, etc.)
- Upgrade/Activate Today to get the reduced price, again need to buy the unlocked version and activate/upgrade to get the $799 (s21 Ultra) or $999 (Z Fold3) or any other phone with discounted price.
- Pay with the gift card and the rest however you want
- Done deal

Sometimes rep doesn't want to do it. In that case, I guess try another store. It might take a little bit of work but show them this receipt as proof (see attached receipt) and that it's advertised on their own website if they refused and then they might do it. Again, always be nice and walk away if you are not getting the deal from that store. No need to be an asshole just because these employees are not aware of deals and don't feel like doing it.

Now, here is some info about the unlocked samsung phone. The phone is unlocked and should work on any carrier, doesn't matter which sim card you use first (not like Bestbuy iPhones that lock to first carrier sim used). Don't believe the rep if he says it will lock to t-mobile if you put that sim in it, not true. You can use the phone with whatever carrier you decide after you have it in hand. Just tell him/her that's fine, no need to discuss about this so I let them say whatever they want and just disregard it.

Good luck everyone.
Damn need at least the 512GB version. The 256GB version is $849 and is a no-brainer $50 price increase for much more usable space for non-upgradeable storage phone for those looking to get the S21 Ultra.
These deals are for unlocked phones. This can be taken advantage of in 2 ways. For someone who is new (like a kid or a immigrant) who has no phone and no service. They can sign up for a service, and get this phone for this price with any carrier. For those of us with a cell phone service already, if you want to keep your current phone, you can buy this phone at the unlocked price and this would be your new phone. You can also trade-in your current phone (value depends on what you are trading in).

There is a third thing you can do. If you want to buy this as a gift. You can buy it. Activate it on your account. Take the sim card out, put it back in your old phone. Then give this phone to someone else. It's always unlocked so it will work on their service. However, the box is of course open but as long as they don't care about that. It's still a new phone.

There is no requirement to sign up for a new cell phone service with these unlocked deals (this is why people like unlocked deals. There are no monthly subsidies that lock you in with the cell phone carrier). However, you have you at least have an existing service. The only caveat with trade-in offers is that the phone you trade-in has to be fully paid off and owned by you.

I don't understand why someone stores will allow the Samsung trade in promotion and some will not. What is being stacked?
In my case, the employee did the trade in AND the purchase in one transaction. The register showed $449 for S21 and S9 trade in at $0.
I couldn't figure out how he got $449 from $799. I showed both the BB promo page showing the extra trade in value and the S21 on their website showing $499 with activation. He said he had to call "someone" and when he came back, he said that "someone" said they couldn't stack the deal. $499 with activation OR the trade in. It didn't make sense at all but I didn't want to create a scene and decided to just cancel and left.

I got a z fold 3, for like $350, traded in a note 20 for $600, got some samsung buds2 for free too. He put in the t-mobile Sim to the fold but I just put my visible Sim in the fold and it works fine unlocked. The samsung buds are like $100, pretty sweet deal, if I don't like the fold, I'll just trade it in for the s22

nope, she did it all by herself without asking to do anything. she finished the trade in like 5 minutes, put the money on gift card and handed me the paperwork.

Thank you. I will try another store tomorrow and see if the employee knows how to do this.

You could do the same thing I did: buy the phone at full price and ship it to your house. Then take it to BB, trade in your phone (get credit), return S21U and rebuy it at the promo price + TIV credit.

I didn't want to leave my phone either, so the Mgr suggested the above scenario. I asked him if he can confirm I will not be stuck with the phone, and he did (not sure who they called but the person on the phone said that is the ok). So, I placed an order on 12/22 in the store, and supposed to receive it on the 27th. The phone came at 2pm on the 24th. Went to the store, found the same Mgr and he took care of it: I returned the phone (~$1200), TIV my S7 Edge ($200), purchased S21U for $800. He then applied $200. I added a 25W charger ($15) and Speck case ($28) and I was out the store around 3pm with S21U new in the box (was never taken out) for ~$714 with tax.
The rep said that he didnot guarantee the 450 TIV of my 20 FE if returned later if I bought the S21u and waited for it to arrive by shipping . But I will try again tomorrow. Thanks for the idea

Is it reasonable to pay extra $325+tax to upgrade my s21 to s21u? I just got s21 today and cancel the line, so basically it is a new phone. Total cost = $250 (125 to Best buy, 125 to a trade-in phone), now if I select trade in s21 (TIV=$375) for a unlocked s21u ($700), I have to pay $700-$375 + tax = $325 +tax, so my total cost of the s21u would be $575+tax = ~$625. Not much of a saving buying an unlocked s21u directly from somewhere, considering s22 is coming out soon?

This is not true. Sprint, and now T-Mobile, both do this for 60 days. Verizon requires the phone to be active on their network for 60 days as well, even if it is paid off early. They are allowed to do this under federal law to combat line/account fraud if they wish.
Sprint and T-mobile 40 days active on the network. Verizon 60 days starting from the first activation ( you can cancel the service next day and it will unlock after 60days still)

Where does everyone see $600 TIV for the S21? When I do it it's only $375 for the TMobile variant.

Hey buddy
for it to work You got to buy a unlocked S21 to get the $600 not the Tmobile version
Then trade in your old phone at BestBuy to get the increased trade in Value of $600

Mine, said the same thing but when go to the store.
They can find a few unlocked version in store near by.
Do a trade in store and pick up unlocked version from another stores....This is not a T-Mobile version which you use Best Buy web site to figure out your trade in value using chart at OP post at the beginning.

Where does it say $600 TIV for the S21 on that list? And where does it say your trade in has to be unlocked version?

Would like to know what the max trade in values for the S21 and S21+ are whether through this unlocked in store deal, or buy online and pickup in store. Highest online says for S21 is $575 and only $475 for the S21+. . .and those are for the TMO variant (minus $200 and same for unlocked versions) which is why we keep asking where are these higher $600 or better numbers coming from???

Has anybody traded in an S21+ and what value did you get?
