$50 less direct from Epson:

Great projector but absolutely needs ISF calibration, especially for HDR. If you're not going to spring for ISF calibration, I'd perform a basic disc-based SDR calibration and and disable HDR on your source devices. Also, you'll need one of a few specific streaming devices to get HDR from streaming sources due to the projector's 10gbps HDMI input bandwidth limitation... AppleTV 4K, Nvidia Shield TV, and Google Chromecast are the ones that can do it (set to 4K24 or 4K30 4:2:2 12-bit). No 4K60 HDR, so not ideal for next-gen gaming consoles.

Note: Epson doesn't accept returns on refurbished projectors if that is important to you.

True... if you think you might want to return for some reason, then you're probably better off buying through Amazon.

They do, however, offer the full 2-year warranty period and have very good customer support on exchanges, even going as far as cross-shipping replacements if you cover the deposit in case you don't return yours. If you're confident in your purchase, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Epson.

Epson 4010 model was $1235 in Walmart. That deal is not coming back.
This 4000 model is good if someone wants it desperately

Well you could also compare electronics prices. Everything has been going up.

last year, you could get a Segway G30P for $550 on black Friday, marked down from its normal $800 price. Now its normal price is $950. I bought a 7th gen Ipad for $200 from Amazon... etc.

Deals come and go but, unfortunately, prices are rising, and comparing a deal from a year ago (or even a month ago) can be a false flag if you're not willing to be extremely patient. If you're looking for the best deal for a 4K Shift LCD, especially one with power/memory zoom/shift and 2.35:1 capability, and gaming at 4K60 HDR isn't a priority, this is probably it. If I were shopping today and these were my priorities (they are), then I don't see any better option.

There are pretty minimal differences between the 4000/4040 and the 4010/4050. The 5050ub was a big step up from the 5040ub, with the inclusion of 18gbps HDMI input for 4K60 HDR as well as user adjustable HDR tone mapping (HDR slider)... unfortunately neither trickled down to the 4010/4050.

so, you would not go any lower then the 5050 model? I see the 6050 but it looks the same but with someone making sure it is a higher standard? what does that mean? Thanks! I will hopefully look to be buying a unit this year. I would think it would be used about 75% movies at night but I also want to watch some games, etc on it during the day. The room will have some light control but def not dark, etc during the day! Your thoughts suggestions would be appreciated on the Epson line!

If the 4000/4010/4040/4050 is what fits your budget, it can be a great option... just know it absolutely needs professional calibration to have acceptable HDR performance due to lackluster tone mapping.

What I was saying in my prior comment is the 5050ub got some big generational upgrades over the 5040ub that the 4010/4050 didn't get over the 4000/4040.

Anyone has tried the EF 100? Also, I did pull the trigger on Anker Nebula Cosmos 1080p last week for $600. But I'm debating if I should get an Epson 880 or 1080? Any thoughts?
